Ever spent 2 weeks trying to write something that should've taken 5 minutes? That was me, staring at a blank screen, trying to write about moving to Manchester. Countless drafts. Deleted every single one. Classic overthinking. Every word had to be perfect. Every sentence had to sound profound (Spoiler: They never did). But Friday morning, I managed to force myself to stop trying so hard. Grabbed my phone. Opened Apple Notes. Brain-dumped everything in <5 minutes. No editing. No second-guessing. Just raw thoughts. Copied it to LinkedIn, trimmed the fat, hit post. Was it my best writing? Not even close. But it's better than it never leaving my head. Bonus: I actually enjoyed writing it for a change. - I write for hours every day. But somehow, writing for myself feels like the hardest thing in the world. Anyone else get that?
Sometimes the raw, unedited stuff hits hardest.
This is an absolute classic of the genre. I tnink thebiggest benefit is closing the "open loop" in your mind by externalising it (even though it's not as 'good' as we want)
Sometimes you just have to grip it and rip it!
Loved your raw honesty! I'm guilty of overthinking too. Sometimes 'done' trumps perfection.
This resonates so much! Harrison It's incredible how overthinking can freeze us, especially when we're trying to create something that feels perfect.
Exactly, overthinking can block our creativity. Sometimes the simplest approach works best. Great share. Harrison McIntyre-Miller
Sometimes, the pressure of perfection gets in the way of the message we want to share. Raw thoughts often carry the most authenticity.
Love this approach! Letting go of perfection makes writing so much more enjoyable.
It certainly does! Writing for oneself can be tough.
