Can cannabis swing the 2024 election? Marino. client, the US Cannabis Council (USCC), makes a compelling case in the latest opinion piece in Cultivated Media . This byline from David Culver explores the power of #cannabis as a voting issue and how federal #cannabisreform could impact the ballots. Cannabis matters to millions of Americans—and policymakers are listening. As calls for reform grow louder, candidates should take note: supporting cannabis is no longer just good policy; it’s good politics. Here’s an excerpt: “Michigan, now the nation’s top cannabis market by sales volume, employs more than 46,000 people in the industry. In 2020, the state was decided by just 2.8%—about 154,000 votes. Pennsylvania is similar with the state’s cannabis industry employs 23,402 people, and in 2020, President Biden won Pennsylvania by just over 81,000 votes. With such narrow margins, the cannabis industry represents a significant voting bloc that could play a decisive role in determining the outcome of the 2024 election.” #CannabisCommunity #MarinoCannabis #CannabisPR

In this episode of Let's Be Blunt with Montel, we sit down with Moriah Barnhart, a prominent advocate and businesswoman from the Tampa Bay Area, to discuss the groundbreaking Florida Amendment 3. On the ballot in November 2024, this initiative aims to legalize adult-use cannabis for those aged 21 and older. Moriah brings her wealth of experience in the medical cannabis community to the table, providing valuable insights into the potential impacts of this initiative on Florida's economy, job market, and overall cannabis landscape. The discussion begins with an overview of Florida Amendment 3, detailing what the initiative entails and what it would legalize. We then explore the major players backing and opposing the initiative, including Smart and Safe Florida and Drug Free America. Our conversation takes a deep dive into how legalization could bring significant economic benefits, potentially generating between $4.9 billion to $6.1 billion in sales in the first year. We also discuss the necessary steps to achieve the required 60% supermajority vote for the amendment. Insight into Governor DeSantis' stance on adult-use cannabis legalization is shared, aligning Florida's potential legalization with broader national trends. We highlight how the initiative might influence voter turnout in the 2024 elections, particularly among younger demographics. The proposed tax rates and how the funds will be allocated are discussed in detail, along with the impact of legalization on past marijuana-related convictions through the expungement of convictions. Join us for an in-depth conversation that not only sheds light on Florida's legislative landscape but also emphasizes the broader implications of cannabis reform. Tune in to get informed, get involved, and stay ahead of the curve. https://lnkd.in/eK8z5JM9

The cannabis industry is preparing for Trump 2.0. What does that mean? I write in today's Cultivated Media that cannabis reform advocacy is going to take on a "Red" hue. That means less discussions of social equity and racial justice, and more pro states' rights, debanking, and jobs. And the industry, for its part, is lining up a charm offensive: Many CEOs and execs of publicly traded cannabis firms were in DC and attending events for Trump's inauguration. Two of the biggest trade groups recently combined to form a united lobbying front, hiring Republicans with connections to Trump's orbit. (We've got an interview with the key people you need to know in the newly formed US Cannabis Roundtable). Trump himself supported limited cannabis reform on the campaign trail, but his last Administration was regressive. I also imagine some left-leaning cannabis reform groups may be lamenting the missed opportunities under Biden, given that for the next four years, whatever cannabis reform we get is going to be far more palatable to Trump's voters than, say, Liz Warren's. Either way, we'll be covering the new Admin's action — or inaction — on the cannabis reform front in the coming weeks and months. It's an issue a lot of Americans, both Republican and Democrat, care about. Let me know what you think. The link's in the comments.

While it’s unlikely that a second Trump presidency would actively seek to undo a finalized cannabis rescheduling, there may be a lack of urgency to expedite the process shortly after an inauguration. On the legislative front, the outlook is somewhat different. Trump’s approach suggests that he may not stand in the way of any cannabis legislation that reaches his desk, particularly if it enjoys bipartisan support. However, the political landscape, characterized by potential split houses or narrow majorities in Congress, adds a layer of uncertainty to the prospects of bipartisan support and legislative action.
