Teammates J. Scott Cooper & Fiorella Sist recently gave a presentation at the 2024 Clorosur conference in Lima, Peru on the “Lithium Market Impact to the Chlor-alkali Industry”. The presentation was well received by the Clorosur members and the major chlor-alkali producers in South America and will aid them in better determining chlor-alkali production rates through 2030 and beyond.

The secondary amines, methylmonoethanolamine (MMEA) and diethanolamine (DEA), are decomposition fragments of N-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) and can also be byproducts of its synthesis. Critchfield and Jenkins (1999) provide a detailed and interesting discussion on MDEA degradation in TGTUs. In the presence of organic acid heat stable salts (HSSs), MMEA and often DEA are almost always detected. The total concentration of secondary amine fragments typically amounts to roughly twice that of the total organic acids present, as a percentage of the original amine. In TGTU amine samples, DEA is usually found in higher quantities than MMEA, with a typical ratio of approximately 2:1. Benzenes are excellent basic units but suffer unfavorable properties due to poor metabolic stability and aqueous solubility.? C(sp3) is a rich #bioisosteric scaffold for replacing Benzenes, and it is one of the medicinal chemists' fabulous creative thoughts. Could AI develop this kind of innovative solution?
