We are proud to announce that our GREENCAP partners (UNISTRA, in collaboration with?TUD,?TCD, and?BED) have completed work focused on functionalization of MXene and graphene materials, and demonstrating improved electrochemical properties. Key findings from this work include: - Functionalization of Ti3C2Tx MXene?with small organic molecules. - Functionalization of V2C MXene?using diazonium salts to enhance K+ storage performance. - In-situ functionalization of MXene surfaces?with borate polyanion groups through a flux-assisted eutectic molten etching approach. - Improvement of electrochemical performance?of graphene-based supercapacitors via high-pressure homogenization and wet-jet milling. Graphene has been called a “wonder” material because of its superlative properties such as high thermal and electrical conductivities. However, Graphene is hard to process. For instance, graphene is hydrophobic, not soluble in water, and aggregate very easily. Graphene oxide, a oxigen functionalised form of graphene, is hydrophilic, soluble in water, but is poorly conductive. We have invented a new material called Karbohm that conducts heat and electricity as well as a graphene and is highly processable being soluble in water as well as organic solvents. Karbohm is an invention developed the NUS Centre for Advanced 2D Materials (CA2DM). In the picture below we show solutions with graphene, graphene oxide (2 different degrees of oxidation) and Karbohm. Seeing is believing! OCSiAl Opens First European Graphene Nanotube Facility OCSiAl held an opening ceremony of the world’s sole graphene nanotube production facility and announced its plans for expansion by the end of 2025. The facility has a nameplate annual capacity for graphene nanotube synthesis of 60 tonnes, as well as lines dedicated to various nanotube dispersions, R&D, and quality control laboratories. With its existing dispersion capacities, OCSiAl can enhance up to 65 GWh worth of lithium-ion batteries—enough for over 1 million electric vehicles.
