Building AI and human capital for road safety Nimmi Rangaswamy Yug Dedhia, Anjali Singh, Vaibhav Singh Tomar & Dev Singh Thakur Interesting information about Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and role of AI in ADAS. Using capabilities approach, authors presented the benefits of AI driven technologies to enhance road safety. Research objective: Explore EDAS through anthropologic lens Research context: Bus drivers, their voices and perspectives. Methodology: Interviewed 32 drivers, attended multiple driving training seminar, five bus trips for observations, comprehensive tour of two bus depots. Findings: Drivers are enrolled in ranking systems - based on alert system linked to EDAS Lack of agency becomes a serious issue Many issues are beyond drivers' control (poor quality of roads, poor road discipline by other vehicles - two wheelers - that results in alerts) Drivers thinks of ADAS as recording keeping of alerts rather than as system supporting avoidance of accidents Conclusion: AI supported ADAS system should be used as supportive system rather than as record keeping system of drivers' mistakes/ alerts GlobDev Workshop, #ICIS2023
