?? Slang ≠ Uneducated Growing up, slang was just part of how I communicated. It’s a reflection of my environment, my experiences, and the community that shaped me. Yet, society often equates slang with being uneducated or less capable. Let me tell you—nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, I speak in slang. But I’ve also found myself as one of the smartest people in the room at times. The difference? I don’t feel the need to prove it. Actions speak louder than words, and my work, creativity, and curiosity will always speak for themselves. It’s true—my vocabulary may not be as wide as others due to a lack of exposure to certain words growing up. But that doesn’t limit the power of my mind, my ability to innovate, or my passion to learn and grow. I can code-switch with the best of them, but I’m realizing more and more that I shouldn’t have to. I should be accepted for the brilliant, capable individual I am—slang and all. I’m learning to own my voice, my roots, and the uniqueness I bring to the table. We all deserve the space to be authentic—whether we speak in perfect “formal” English or the language of our upbringing. Stay authentic. Be you.
