What made you originally want to be an engineer? Because my Dad was an engineer on the Apollo Mission and he came home and talked about how his teams were better when there were female mathematicians?on the team. This discussion between?Melinda French Gates?and her daughter Phoebe is a great example of how influential early role models are. Melinda's Dad and his female?#STEM?colleagues were pivotal in inspiring?her to consider and subsequently pursue a career in engineering. We don't know what jobs will look like in the future, but as Melinda predicts, we know that computer science and?#AI?will have a massive impact on our society. So, it's imperative that women have equal opportunities in creating the innovations that will shape our world. Collaboration of different experiences and perspectives?are key in creating technology that works for all. Check out the amazing work Melinda is doing at Pivotal Ventures to address the gender gap in #tech #innovation and leadership roles. Does anyone remember the board game Careers? I used to play it all the time when I was a kid! I convinced my daughter Phoebe to play the 1974 version with me, and wow, was it sexist ?? It made me reflect on my own career in computer science—and why I’m so passionate about getting more women into positions of power.
Thanks for sharing! We always say that those dinner conversation at home with our young ones are so important to tackle the stereotypes that set in early.
What a powerful reminder of the importance of role models in inspiring future generations. ?? Hannah Nasralla
