Antioch University has revamped its three Environmental Studies graduate degrees in order to expand access and make it easier for students to complete these degrees with Antioch University. These changes include reduced credit hours, condensed residency hours, and the addition of virtual courses to various programs. “By allowing more students the ability to access our degrees and complete them more quickly, we will empower more environmental leaders with the knowledge and skills to make a profound impact and build toward a more sustainable, healthy future,” said Ben Pryor, PhD, Dean of the School of Environmental Studies. https://lnkd.in/gmNeFce8 I'm thrilled to announce a significant milestone in my professional journey! I've been honored with an invitation and subsequently voted in as a member of the University of Idaho Rangeland Center's Partners Advisory Council. This new role, which I am embracing in my personal capacity, marks a pivotal moment where my passion for rangelands and commitment to sustainable development converge. Riding through my beautiful backyard, I've taken this opportunity to reflect on my research concerns and the critical needs facing our rangelands, Tribes, and Nation. The balance between ecological sustainability, energy and critical materials is a delicate one. As we push forward into an era of innovation, the stewardship of our rangelands remains paramount. I am serving in this role independently, and my views are my own, not reflecting those of any agency or institution. This independence fuels my determination to address the challenges ahead with transparency and integrity. For my fellow rangeland enthusiasts and advocates: if you have an issue close to your heart that you believe warrants attention in university research, please reach out! Collaboration and dialogue are key to our shared success. #UniversityOfIdaho #RangelandConservation #SustainableDevelopment #CleanEnergy #CriticalMaterials #RangelandResearch #EcoTech #ConservationResearch #RangelandManagement #Sustainability #Innovation #EnvironmentalStewardship #UI #NativePlants #Energy #Minerals #CriticalMinerals #RareEarthMinerals #Tribes #Indians #NativeAmericans #USA #EnergyResilience #Mining #SageGrouse #Fragmentation #Landscapes

I've personally found throughout my academic journey in Environmental Management at University that our learnings lean heavily towards Western-centric perspectives. Even when non-western topics are included, they are presented within the rigid frameworks of the academy which unfortunately removes the nuance, depth and authenticity of the topics. This is particularly noticed when learning about Indigenous knowledge and ways of being, which are vital for a truly holistic understanding of environmental management. Outside of my degree, I've had the privilege of attending two yarning circles led by Indigenous scholars. They were incredibly rich and helped me better understand Indigenous perspectives, knowledge and more. At the first yarning circle, I remember sitting there listening to the discussions and thinking how distant and insufficient my educational learnings were to the wisdom being shared. And at my second yarning circle, the speaker mentioned the ontological distance between colonial education and traditional knowledge, which resonated with my own feelings of unpreparedness after years of university learning. These experiences deepened my appreciation for the need for us scholars to learn, unlearn and relearn. I’m sharing this great article in the hopes that it encourages reflection and challenges our current ways of thinking and doing. https://lnkd.in/gA2sqBXy [ "Moving beyond ontological (worldview) supremacy: Indigenous insights and a recovery guide for settler-colonial scientists" by Coen Hird , Dominique M. We’re excited to introduce #SEAMIND! ??? Our new project, "Bridging Worlds through Marine Environmental Education for Diverse Young Minds" (SEAMIND), combines #marine biology, ecology, and #educational theory to create an engaging and hands-on learning experience for students. ???? Through field trips to coastal areas, hands-on experiments, and problem-solving projects, students will become 'young scientists,' gaining real-world skills by studying marine species, ecosystems, and environmental issues. Through SEAMIND, interactive educational packages focusing on marine education will be developed, and teaching materials will be created so teachers can use them effectively ?? The project is conducted in collaboration with iSea. Co-funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Neither the European Union nor EACEA can be held responsible for them. ??
