Come one, come all! Just Do It ?? We urgently need people to donate blood and help boost stocks. You may have read in the news that we have called an Amber Alert on O type blood stocks. This means hospitals need to reduce their use of O type blood to make sure blood is available for patients who need it to survive. An Amber Alert is called when we have less than two days' worth of blood in stock - we aim to have six days' stock at any one time. A perfect storm of increased demand of O type blood from hospitals following the recent cyber attack on London hospitals has combined with reduced collections due to summer pressures as people go on holiday or attend events, meaning we have high levels of unfilled appointments in our donor centres. Right now we're prioritising appointments for O type donors but we need donors of all blood types. We're working hard to secure blood stocks and are making an additional 1000 appointments per week available in our 25 donor centres, which we need to fill so we can supply the blood every patient needs. We know how amazing our donors are, and we need your help to make this possible. We are currently prioritising appointments for O type donors so if you can't find an immediate appointment, please don't worry. There may be a longer wait before your appointment but blood is needed 24/7, 365 days a year so we need people to keep booking and donating in the coming days, weeks and months. If you have already booked an appointment please keep it, if not, please book one for as soon as you're able to donate again by calling 0300 123 23 23 or visiting www.blood.co.uk.

Organ donation is not something most people think about until the moment they’re faced with it. For many, it’s as simple as checking a box at the #DMV and assuming the job is done. But that’s not enough. Awareness and education about organ and tissue donation are severely lacking, and the organizations responsible for addressing this— like Donate Life America America Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) are failing to make it a priority. Simply posting on social media or running stale campaigns isn’t cutting it, and the public is left uninformed about an issue that could save thousands of lives every year. Recognizing Donor Sabbath and honoring donor families is important and necessary. These families have made the ultimate gift, giving others a second chance at life. But this occasion also underscores how little the general public understands about the importance of organ donation. The reality is that Americans are often too focused on their own lives to think about these issues. And that self-centered mindset—combined with a lack of accessible, relevant education—means organ donation isn’t on anyone’s radar until it’s too late. There are over 100,000 people on the transplant waiting list right now, and every day, about 17 people die because an organ isn’t available. These numbers are staggering, but they aren’t new. And yet, where are the nationwide educational efforts to change this? Where are the campaigns that break through the noise and make people see the urgency? Where is the outreach that explains options like Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD), living donation, or how racial disparities impact access to transplants? We need more than one-off posts on LinkedIn or tired messaging that no longer resonates. Social media alone cannot do the heavy lifting. Organ donation awareness requires boots-on-the-ground advocacy in schools, churches, hospitals, and workplaces where these life-saving conversations can happen face-to-face. It requires public service announcements on TV, radio, and digital platforms. It demands partnerships with influencers and leaders who can amplify the message to broader, more diverse audiences. The efforts we see today are too small, too narrow, and too outdated to spark meaningful change. And let’s not overlook the critical inefficiencies in the current system. Why are viable organs being discarded because of outdated matching technology? Why are there no large-scale campaigns dispelling myths about donation? Why is it that families don’t understand their options until they’re in the middle of a crisis? The organizations responsible for organ donation and transplantation need to do better—not just for the thousands of patients waiting, but for the donors and families who deserve to see their gifts used to their fullest potential. Today marks the beginning of National Donor Sabbath. Recognized by major religions, the purpose of this annual three-day observance is to honor donors and raise awareness of the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation. At Healthmap Solutions, we support kidney donation, especially living kidney donation, as the best long-term option for patients with kidney failure. We encourage everyone who can to register as an organ donor. In the meantime, show your support by wearing blue and green this weekend. Learn more at: https://hubs.li/Q02XV4Ds0

Please donate blood if you are able. the need is great and there is no substitute https://3cu.be/blood Blood donations are always needed, but the winter and summer months often bring a critical shortage. In January 2024, the American Red Cross declared a national emergency due to the shortage of blood. They're seeing the lowest number of people giving blood in the last 20 years. O positive is the most common blood type, and O negative is the universal blood type. O negative is the first blood type to run out during a shortage. The U.S. needs approximately 29,000 units of red blood cells, 5,000 units of platelets, and 6,500 units of plasma every day. Only about 3% of eligible people donate blood each year
