New employment laws and changes go into effect on Jan. 1, 2024. Review applicable laws in the states where you operate and/or have employees working and prepare to be compliant. For example, this may include state minimum wage increases and new leave laws. https://lnkd.in/eEdZurHE

The New Joint-employer standard was to go into effect today but has now been pushed back to March 11, 2024. The new standard establishes new criteria for determining joint employer status as applied to labor issues related to the National Labor Relations Act. It will rescind the existing 2020 joint-employer standard and replace it with a more inclusive law, making it easier for employers to be classified as joint employers. Ironically, March 11th coincides with the new Independent Contractor ruling effective date. Coincidence or not? Interesting year ahead, that's for sure.

The anticipated Workers (Predictable Terms and Conditions) Act 2023 will not be enacted this September as expected. Instead, the Labour government plans to include stronger worker protections in the upcoming Employment Rights Bill. This new bill will ensure that contracts accurately reflect workers' hours over 12 weeks, promoting fairer and more predictable working conditions. Keep an eye out for the Employment Rights Bill, set to be published by October 13th, as part of the government's promise to make significant changes within its first 100 days. This highlights the ongoing need for flexibility and improvement in labour laws to meet the changing needs of the workforce.
