"Assistant" is a misnomer. We have moved far beyond phones and calendars and leftover terminology of the "Mad Men" era. EAs are the right hands, confidants, keepers of secrets, relationship managers, gatekeepers, communication controllers, event planners, speech writers, protectors of reputation, efficiency operation specialists, project leads, and travel masterminds. We solve problems before they exist. We are an executive's business partner. We do not simply "assist". Yet, it is challenging to shake off a certain stigma that comes with the title; "Assistant" really diminishes the high level of skills we bring to the table.
