As a Gas Technician, you will be part of the Service Department supporting the service team. The ideal candidate will have communication skills, interpersonal skills and be knowledgeable which will align successfully in the organization. Job Title: Gas Technician Location: Dartmouth, NS Pay Range: $30 - $35 What's the Job? Measure and mark reference points for installation of gas lines and equipment. Install and maintain gas meters and regulators and gas lines between gas unit and gas meter. Test and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devices. Determine estimates of repair cost Is experienced enough installing boilers, and on demand HW and furnaces What's Needed? Must have Gas Tech B license Must have own tools such as drill, tape measure and level Must drivers license and clean drivers abstract Gas Fireplace Installation experience Must have professional appearance be able to work as part of a team What's in it for me? I have a job opportunity in Q*** as a Senior Instrument Technician. Me: Hi, sorry, I’m not a technician and don’t have experience as a technician. Recruiter: May I know your current designation? Me: I’m currently working as an Instrument and Control Engineer on EPCC projects. Recruiter: I have an opening for a Senior Instrument Supervisor (Field). Would you be interested in applying? Me: As I mentioned, I don’t have field experience as a technician or supervisor. My background is in EPCC Project Management and Operation Support, but not in Field Maintenance, so I dont think I would fit the job requirment to apply. Recruiter: Oh, I see. If you know anyone with a similar profile, please refer them to me. Me: Ok. At this point, I was unsure how to respond. If someone has a similar profile to mine, I don’t think they would apply for this position either. This exchange left me wondering why some recruiters don't take the time to thoroughly study a candidate's background before reaching out. It's essential for recruiters to align the job opportunities with a candidate’s actual experience and expertise. To all recruiters out there, I believe a more personalized approach—where the candidate’s background is carefully reviewed—would not only save time but also enhance the recruitment process. Instrumentation, Automation and Industrial Process Control Technician/Petroleum & Gas Engineer/Production Operator
As an Oil and gas engineer and an instrumentation technician I would like to give you some advice about the skills that you need to learn and being successfull in oil and gas companies. If you want to be successful working as an instrumentation technician my hint is, besides to knowing how to calibrate the instruments you need to be very good at drawing (designing) and interpreting the P&IDs. For example I’ve designed this simple P&ID and I’m going to explain a little bit more about that. The P&ID you guys are seeing is a Three Phases Separator ( separate a fluid mixture according to its density). So when fluid gets in the vessel collides directly with an inlet deflector, causing a drastic change in speed and direction that causes the gas to separate from the mixture. At the gas outlet we’ll find a DEMISTER PAD that helps to enhance the removal of liquid droplets entrained in a vapor stream (to avoid CARRIER OVER). The liquid part settles due to gravity, the liquid parts are divided by a weir. In each liquid outlet we’ll find a VORTEX BREAKERS (to prevent whirlpool from being formed). At the top of the vessel we will find a device called PRESSURE TRANSMITTER this device will detect the pressure inside the vessel and it’s going to convert the pressure into a standard electric signal (4-20mA) and transmitting to the PRESSURE CONTROLLER so this device will correlate the SET POINT and the FEEDBACK to create a output signal to control the PRESSURE VALVE. At the bottom of the vessel we’ll find the oil and the water outlet. LEVEL TRANSMITTERS are going to detect the level (Low or High) of the vessel and convert this into a standard electric signal (4-20mA) then send this signal to LEVEL CONTROLLER,this device will correlate the set point with the feedback signal then crest a output signal to control the LEVEL VALVE. We can also see “ BYPASS” a bypass is installed in such cases to permit passage of fluid through the bypass line while adjustments or repairs are made on the control that is bypassed. Diving Deep into Thermocouples in Instrumentation As an Instrumentation and Control Technician in the oil and gas industry, I've had extensive experience working with thermocouples. These temperature elements are critical in providing accurate and reliable measurements across a wide range of applications. Understanding Thermocouples: Basic Principle: Thermocouples consist of two dissimilar metals that generate a small voltage from two different junctions: the hot junction and the cold (reference) junction. The millivolt output is proportional to the temperature difference between these junctions. This principle makes thermocouples accurate and reliable for temperature measurement. Wide Temperature Range: Thermocouples are especially recommended for high-temperature measurements, typically from 200°C and above. Their robust design and wide range make them suitable for various industrial applications. Types of Thermocouples: Before delving into specific types, it's important to note that thermocouples can be either grounded or ungrounded: Grounded Thermocouples: These are very responsive to temperature changes but can be affected by electrical noise from the earthing system or the nature of the process. Ungrounded Thermocouples: These are isolated from their environment, offering less responsiveness but greater accuracy in noisy environments. Common Types of Thermocouples: Type B, E, J, N, K, R, T, S: These represent different combinations of metals, each suited to specific temperature ranges and environments. For example, Type K (Nickel-Chromium/Nickel-Alumel) is versatile and widely used due to its broad temperature range and durability.
