Great questions to begin a partnership with local NGOs. Ask is and listen and act on our answers. "How can we work with you? How can we support you to drive sustainable change, build resilience, and effectively uplift your communities?" Thanks Ibrahim-Tanko Amidu This initiative champions a more democratic, inclusive, and sustainable approach to development.
In his opening remarks at the ongoing Anchor Partners meeting in the UK, our Executive Director, Ibrahim-Tanko Amidu highlighted how STAR-Ghana Foundation collaborates intentionally with a diverse range of civil society organizations—from grassroots CBOs to national think tanks. The Foundation's focus is on asking, "How can we work with you? How can we support you to drive sustainable change, build resilience, and effectively uplift your communities?" In response to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the?Silver Gummy Foundation—a Canadian private family foundation devoted to reducing gender-based violence through education—recently set out to expand our funding mandate by creating a funding category for Indigenous organizations. As we’ve done so, we’ve learned a few key lessons: ? Focus on relationships first, and programs and solutions second. ? How we show up as a foundation matters: We must be willing to relinquish control over certain types of decision-making and invite feedback on our approach. ? It takes time to build trust and the relationships upon which trust-based grantmaking is founded. ? Mark your agenda and don't miss the opportunity to delve into the role of partnerships within the philanthropic sector and explore the evolution of the global alliance between international institutions and civil society, particularly philanthropic foundations. ?? Registration is mandatory (RSVP before 17 May): https://lnkd.in/dQdcsZUy ?? Date: Thursday 30 May 2024 | 12.15 - 1.45 pm ?? Venue: Room 408, Uni-Dufour (Rue Général-Dufour 24, 1204 Genève) ?? With Prof. Giuseppe Ugazio, Dr. Anita Budziszewska, Dr Ali Akbar Mohammadi, Prof. Luciano Segreto, Dr Manuela Tortora, and moderation by Dr Oto Potluka, Ph.D. Contemporary global challenges have underscored the need for intensified interaction among actors in the international community. The role of states as primary players in international relations sometimes is questioned to facilitate more comprehensive global partnerships with civil society organisations. The philanthropy sector has emerged as an important actor in this global alliance. However, and as emphasized by Youde (2019), philanthropic organisations do not replace states but rather complement them, possessing their own spheres of influence. Yet, they not only wield unique power to impact the existing system but also contribute to shaping it.

In the latest of our 'in conversation with' blogs, Abi Nolan shares her story of how in 2023 she finally managed to undertake her Churchill Fellowship first awarded in 2019. Abi visited Colombia and Alaska where she studied organisations supporting displaced people (Colombia) and Alaskan native community through circle-based restorative practice, a method Abi herself has been exploring. #EconomyAndEnterprise #EnterpriseAndSocialImpact #changemakers https://lnkd.in/eEVHKNzk

Yesterday, I participated as a panelist on SDG synergy: holistic and inclusive approaches to development hosted by the Scottish International Development Alliance. One of the interesting questions was about how decolonizing, anti-racist and inclusive approaches play a role. The conversations are picking steam, translating it all into actions is a critical task in the sector moving forward. We still have 99% of global humanitarian and philanthropic $$ going to predominantly white-led organizations. Or that only 5.4% of US funding to Africa went directly to locally-founded and led organizations. The sector has recognized that grassroots leaders and organizations working in closest proximity to communities bring about lasting change and transformation that is unmatched. Our SDG goal synergies at Budondo Intercultural Center have shown that we not only provide care to critical cases in rural areas, but also reduce over-the-counter medical bills by 70% through social entrepreneurship and increase community resilience through population health and environment actions across 600 model households. Thank you Scottish International Development Alliance for having me.

Our CEO and Founder, Karen Hung, had the honor of sharing the mic on Ellenbecker Investment Group's “Milwaukee’s Philanthropic Community" podcast along with Jim Stollberg, Halftime Co-CEO and Tim Hanley, Senior Advisor, Marquette University. Thank you, Jill Economou, for the candid conversation about “purpose driven process” and the advent of Silver Rock Consulting. Key soundbites?? ??Have the courage and confidence to dig in if you have an idea to pursue or are passionate about a cause. ??Think about the good you can do at your highest level to bring value and purpose into the world—and gain personal satisfaction in the process. ?? Formal mentoring is important, by serving as an advisor and sounding board.? But also consider advocacy and sponsorship. Advocating for someone—both inside and outside of the room—is just as powerful.? Sponsorship is choosing to do something to tangible, such as a job or opportunity, to help someone have a platform to shine. ?? Consider this perspective on board involvement for both active and interested board leaders:?Accountability is table stakes; one needs to also think about courageous leadership and having a moral compass.?
