??Last month, I was in a conversation with a friend and she told me she wanted to go enroll in a fashion academy. ??As good as it sounded because we are in the age & time where having a skill is as important as giving your life Christ. The question was why? There and then i started talking about how stressful it’s gonna be especially because she has a toddler. ??Then her reply was that most of her clients have been repeatedly asking her if she sews. Her brand is all about sales of Aso Oke (used for traditional wedding or head tie for women). So most of these clients (especially Brides) overtime do not want to go through the hassle of looking for a Fashion Designer, they want a package that already includes the Aso oke + Sewing. Hence the reason she wanted to go to fashion academy?. Very valid actually! But then I told her why not OUTSOURCE? Let’s cut the long story, she’s about to deliver her third Aso Oke to the third client??. Guess what? Fabric sourced & Tailored by her?. That is the power of Outsourcing ?. I fired a client because they made fun of my candidates hair. They said, “he looked like he was wearing a helmet. Because of his slicked back hair.” I will accept a lot of reasons not to hire: -Lack of qualifications -Not enough industry experience -Lack of Enthusiasm for role -Cultural Fits But I will NEVER accept the way a candidate looks, as a reason not to hire. I once had a Manager tell me, “I shouldn’t pull my hair back in a bun for work.” Can someone please explain to me, how our hair, beards, tattoos, facial features..impacts our ability to do the job? If you are ready to hire, call me. If you want to talk about hair, call someone else. Qualifications > Appearance. PS.
