We are thrilled to announce that the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) has awarded Hicksville Water District’s Plant Number 8?the Gold Engineering Excellence Award! This recognition celebrates our commitment to finding innovative solutions while meeting the District’s needs and complying with state and federal regulations. Plant Number 8 uses ultraviolet light and carbon to tackle contaminants like per- and polyfluoralkyl substances and 1,4-dioxane—both of which may have serious health effects, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. By phasing treatment technology installations across the district’s eight treatment plants, the project safeguarded water access for 48,000 residents, minimized disruptions, and prevented critical well shutdowns. This approach ensures compliance with New York’s water quality standards while prioritizing public health and sustainability. This award reflects the dedication, collaboration, and innovation of everyone involved. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Hicksville Water District and our team at H2M architects + engineers for their expertise and commitment to protecting our community.
