Exciting progress for fibroid research! The NIH has announced the establishment of two new research centers dedicated to advancing our understanding and treatment of uterine fibroids. These centers aim to tackle the gaps in research and bring much-needed solutions to a condition that affects up to 80% of women by age 50, particularly Black women, who experience a higher incidence and more severe symptoms. This is a major step forward in supporting women’s health and addressing long-standing disparities in care. Diagnosing Endo. I have recently read two studies on diagnosing endometriosis and appreciate the efforts being made to find more affordable and less invasive diagnostic methods. Current statistics indicate that 10% of the female population has endometriosis. However, many women likely go undiagnosed due to a lack of resources, time, and finances. Additionally, I don't doubt many are misdiagnosed. Regardless of diagnosis, it is crucial to take care of ourselves. A key part of the healing journey is feeling heard and understood. That is why I coach women with endometriosis to address their lifestyle, whether they have been formally diagnosed or only suspect they have the disease. I have walked the path of recovery, much of it alone, and I am committed to helping others navigate their journey with support and understanding. ????Endometriosis Diagnostics ??? Imagine living with chronic pain that's often dismissed or misdiagnosed for years. This is the reality for millions of women with endometriosis. It's time we change that. ?? Shocking Facts: ??1 in 9 Australian women affected by age 44 ??7-10 years average delay in diagnosis ??$9.7 billion annual economic burden in Australia alone ??Up to 50% may face fertility challenges ?? The Hidden Struggle: Endometriosis isn't just about pain. It's missed workdays, strained relationships, and dreams of motherhood put on hold. Current diagnostic methods are invasive, inaccurate, and simply not good enough. ?? The Diagnostic Dilemma: ??Invasive laparoscopy remains the gold standard ??Reliance on visual identification, not specific biomarkers ??Non-invasive methods like ultrasound have limited accuracy ??Symptoms often mistaken for other conditions ??Lack of awareness among patients and some healthcare providers ??Normalisation of pain, leading to delayed seeking of care ??Limited access to specialists in some areas ?? Hope on the Horizon: At TC Life, we're not just talking about change - we're making it happen. We're on a mission to bring the most advanced, non-invasive diagnostic tools to market. ??Our Commitment: ??Assessing and introducing commercially viable biomarker-based solutions ??Collaborating with industry experts to ensure global access, starting in Australia ??Bridging the gap between innovative diagnostics and patient care Together, we can rewrite the story for millions of women suffering in silence. ?? Addressing Stroke Prevention Disparities ?? A recent study in the JAHA — Journal of the American Heart Association reveals a concerning disparity: women, especially Mexican American women, are less likely than men to take prescribed medications to prevent recurrent strokes. This is a critical issue, as secondary stroke prevention is essential to reducing risk and improving outcomes. ?? Key Insights: Mexican American women are 3x more likely than men to miss cholesterol-lowering medications. Caregiving roles, side effects, and perceptions about medication benefits may be barriers. Older and married women report higher rates of missed doses. At Alva Health, we are committed to empowering individuals with innovative solutions to better manage their health. This research highlights the urgent need for education, community support, and tools like wearable technology to help close the gap in care. Let’s work together to improve stroke outcomes for all. ?? AccendoWave - A Pain #Data Company One example: Many drugs widely prescribed to older adults, including statins for high cholesterol, were studied mostly in men, with results extrapolated to women. “It’s assumed that women’s biology doesn’t matter and that women who are premenopausal and those who are postmenopausal respond similarly,” Faubion said. “This has got to stop: The FDA has to require that clinical trial data be reported by sex and age for us to tell if drugs work the same, better, or not as well in women,” Faubion insisted. A Top 4 Global Health Equity Solution and Top 15 Global Remote Monitoring Company, AccendoWave, benchmarks objective brain wave pain data (specialty, gender, age) and has nine #pain databases: Emergency Department, Maternal Health, Oncology, MSK, Medical Surgical, ICU, #Women, Adults, #Seniors to eliminate bias, improve outcomes and reduce health care costs. If desired, AccendoWave can also create customized pain databases for partners that can be accessed on the Datavant platform. https://lnkd.in/gdfAHzQM
