What's happening around the world is important. What's happening in our nation is important. What's happening in Alabama is important. What's happening in Jefferson County is important. What's happening in the City of Birmingham is important. But, is anything more important to you than what is happening in your own neighborhood? The house to the left of you. The house to the right of you. I am pre-occupied with problem-solving for our residents no matter what else is happening in the world. We are piloting a new solution for Birmingham's #EastLake neighborhood. It's called 'Safe Streets' and it's about more than just rooting out violent crime, illegal dumping, and prostitution. It's also about seeding hope. And, it's about supporting residents who seek to restore pride where they reside. And, yeah, it's about reducing #gunviolence. One easy and important way that Philadelphians can help us advance our campaign is by purchasing some of these stickers, which include a QR code that links directly to our petition, and asking your local neighborhood book shop, cafe, salon, boutique, bar, restaurant, food co-op, etc. owner if you can stick one of them in a strategic location such as on their counter, bulletin board, bathroom, or elsewhere. We have a strong set of qualitative and quantitative arguments for decriminalizing natural psychedelics here but as our city councilmembers and senior legislative staffers have clearly communicated to us, they need to hear more from their constituents on this before they're going to take the political risk of voting on it or even having a public hearing on it. The primary variable we need to influence in our favor, therefore, is their perceived political risk-benefit analysis, and we do that by expanding, activating, and sustaining the engagement of our grassroots.
