1. While I am not one for accolades and awards (I’d rather just get the win/accomplish the goal and enjoy the process along the way), thank you to those that nominated and supported me to be recognized as a Rising Star in this year’s Super Lawyers List. You are too kind and thoughtful, and I appreciate your words and actions. this includes you Ken Nim. I am looking forward to continuing to build and help others accomplish their goals. 2. I spend a lot of time reflecting on the legal industry and its role in business and with people. Whether you are a solo practitioner, boutique law firm, medium sized law firm, big law, or in-house, we all can contribute in meaningful, different ways to businesses and the people who help them. Accordingly, I ask you: what are some of the top traits that you like in an attorney? Conversely, what are some of the top traits that you dislike in an attorney? Happy Fourth!!!
Cole-Frieman & Mallon is delighted to announce the selection of Counsel Brett Bunnell to the 2024 Super Lawyers Northern California Rising Stars list. Super Lawyers is a research-driven, peer-influenced rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Attorneys selected have a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement in one of more than 70 practice areas.

As an organization dedicated to mentoring law students of color and encouraging them to enter the appellate world, we understand how disheartening recent Supreme Court decisions and lower court challenges can be. One of our TAP mentors, Antonio L. Ingram II, Esq., Assistant Counsel for NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., shares where he draws hope: "In these challenging times, we draw hope from the Black National Anthem: 'God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who has brought us thus far on the way; Thou who has by Thy might, Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray.' Yes, setbacks abound, and abject injustice seems ubiquitous. Yet, our testimony isn’t over. If we persist, we will behold the goodness of God." We believe in the power of perseverance and the strength of our collective resolve. We have faced immense challenges before and emerged stronger. Our journey is far from over, and our fight for justice continues. To our mentees and all aspiring lawyers of color: let us stand together, support one another, and keep pushing forward. We will overcome and build an appellate bar that looks more like America. #nextgen #SCOTUS #AppellateLinkedIn

I couldn’t be prouder of my sister, Pamela Flores Gonzaga, Esq. (she/her), who just took one of the biggest steps in her career: starting her own law firm, Flores Gonzaga Law, PLLC. If you know Pam, you know she’s never done anything halfway. From studying political science at FIU to excelling in law school on the Trial Team, and then completing her Juris Doctor at Nova Southeastern University, she’s worked tirelessly to become the attorney she is today. But what sets her apart isn’t just her education or experience—it’s her heart. For years, Pamela has been a relentless advocate for those who needed a voice, especially during her time with Legal Services of Greater Miami. She saw clients as real people with real stories, not just cases. Now, she’s bringing that same commitment to her own firm, creating a space where every client will feel truly heard, respected, and defended. Starting a law firm isn’t easy. It takes courage, grit, and a vision for something bigger than yourself. Pam has all of that, and I’m beyond excited to see her put it into action. If you’re in Miami and need someone who genuinely cares about justice, someone who will fight for you, Flores Gonzaga Law is where you’ll find it. Here’s to all the lives you’re going to change, one client at a time. #FloresGonzagaLaw #ProudSibling #MiamiLaw #AdvocateForJustice

Excited to share that my new piece with Todd Haugh has been published by Emory Law Journal and is available online. The article is titled Nudging Diversity: Merging Law and Behavioral Science to Reduce Workplace Discrimination and Increase Diversity and deals with the complicated bind employers face when it comes to workplace diversity and antidiscrimination initiatives. Relying on recent advances in behavioral science suggesting that choice architecture can be used to “nudge” organizations away from discriminatory decision-making heuristics, we posit that employment law can serve as the delivery mechanism for that change, incentivizing employers to use data-driven behavioral science techniques to combat bias. By embracing behavioral science-based inclusion nudges, companies don’t have to choose between running afoul of the law and giving up their hard-fought diversity gains. Would love to hear feedback and discuss!
Volume 74, Issue 2 is live! It features three Articles, one by Leora Eisenstadt (of Fox School of Business at Temple University) and Todd Haugh (of Indiana University - Kelley School of Business); one by Shirley Lin (Brooklyn Law School); and one by Geeyoung Min (Michigan State University College of Law). It also includes two Comments, by Nicole Faria and Hope Kagan (Class of 2025 of Emory University School of Law). Check out the issue here: https://lnkd.in/dvW3jrx
