Why Good Documentation Should Not Include What Was Decided? Many of us work with documents that are hard to read and contain many requirements. Some of them also have optionals. Our work becomes a mix-and-match exercise. Example? Here we go. There are many questions that must be answered, that (when answered) will complicate the documentation. Good documentation should explain WHY was something decided over WHAT was decided. Wouldn’t it be easier to document only the following? We order winter collection and we need to get rid of summer clothes. We will use a ?summer” promo code to give a discount. We could ask clarifying questions, but what do you think the answers should be? - Does it apply to all items? - Does it apply to already discounted items? - Can client used it again? Our intention is to get rid of inventory. In my opinion the answers would be: - No, it applies only to summer collection - Yes, we want to make room for new clothes - Yes, we want to sell entire summer inventory
