While June is often associated with Pride Month, October is equally important as we celebrate LGBT+ History Month. This is a time to honor the contributions and history of the LGBTQIA+ community. Though some countries observe this month at different times, the choice of October is rooted in significant historical events. LGBT History Month was founded in 1994 by Rodney Wilson, a Missouri high school teacher. In a bold move, Wilson came out to his students while teaching about the Holocaust to emphasize his personal connection to the individuals targeted during the genocide. At a time when being openly gay, particularly in the workplace, was still very risky - marked by policies like “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” - Wilson’s actions were groundbreaking. October was chosen to coincide with National Coming Out Day which is October 11. As we reflect this month, it's important to recognize the significant contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals in the workplace and all facets of society. Thanks to pioneers like Rodney Wilson and the countless advocates, we can continue learning, advocating, and becoming better allies. Let’s use this opportunity to educate ourselves and support inclusion, equity, and respect for all in the workplace and beyond. #LGBTHistoryMonth #LGBTQIA #InclusionMatters #Inclusion #Diversity #DEI #DEIB #Belonging #Community #HR #Leadership #Equality #Equity #HelpingPeopleWorkBetterTogether

We value, respect, and celebrate the diversity of all our employees and clients. June is Pride Month, a time to uplift LGBTQ2S+ voices, celebrate LGBTQ2S+ culture, and support LGBTQ2S+ rights. At VLRC, we are not just a team, we are a united front against discrimination and prejudice. We foster an environment where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, is accepted and celebrated. Pride Month is a testament to our progress and a reminder of the work that still lies ahead. It's a time to honour the contributions and resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community while promoting equality and justice. Remember, fostering belonging is not a one-time event, it's an ongoing journey. Let us learn, grow, and stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ employees, and communities. Together, through advocacy and allyship, we can build a future filled with love, acceptance, and equality for all. VLRC is proud to support and celebrate this global event. Proud to share my learnings on effective CSR communication at the Sustainability Leadership Training Program. When it comes to owning a topic like equality and inclusion, clear, authentic messaging is key. The rainbow movement has gained significant momentum in recent years - an important societal shift that forward-thinking SMEs should thoughtfully consider how to authentically embrace. There are certainly nuances to navigate, but the opportunity to demonstrate values-driven leadership on issues like LGBTQ+ equality is compelling. #SMESS #SustainableLeadership #CorporateCommunications

Every year, March 31st is International Trans Day of Visibility, and not only is it a day to recognize and spread love to all the trans folks living life as their authentic selves, it's also a day to address the fight for equality.??????? Only under a decade removed from marriage equality becoming a full-fledged right, more than half of states in the U.S. still lack basic protections for LGBTQ+ people, allowing discrimination in things like housing, service, medical care, employment, and education. In America today, people can still be denied rights because of who they are or who they love. The Equality Act, if passed in legislature, would establish widespread protections for LGBTQ+ people against discrimination when going to work, looking for a home, going to school, going to the hospital, and simply existing. Our new report, “The Applicability of African Human Rights Standards In Addressing Conversion Practices,” reveals opportunities within the African human rights system to address issues faced by sexual and gender minorities, focusing on conversion practices. Despite progress, these harmful practices targeting LGBTQ people still continue to receive little or no attention in several states. This report empowers stakeholders to challenge these harmful practices by leveraging African human rights standards and frameworks to eradicate these abuses. Happy June! ? The month of June recognizes an important group in society with the celebration of Pride month.? ? Pride month is a time to bring forth advocacy and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. It is time to come together to raise awareness and champion love and inclusion for all.? ? With the acknowledgment of this month of special recognition, it creates an important discussion for our Via team on the importance of allyship.? ? Allyship is a lifelong commitment that refers to the actions, behaviors and practices that leaders take to both support and advocate for others.? ? Allyship is about progress, not perfection. It requires continuous learning, empathy and tangible actions. Our Via team is committed to growing and learning in order to actively support these marginalized communities.? ? Allyship in the workplace is crucial for inclusion and equality. Cisgender/straight Americans can engage in this allyship through self educating and ensuring you are up to date on relevant topics and issues. It is important that you are aware as an ally of using the right language when speaking to or about marginalized groups in order for maximum safety and comfort. Allyship is about standing with others so we can grow to work through a more inclusive world.
