NASA has created a brief video to serve as an introduction to NGSTRO25, a fellowship opportunity for Fall 2025, focused on graduate student research and development of advanced and innovative space technologies: https://lnkd.in/ghi5cvJp The 2025 NASA Space Technology Graduate Research Opportunities (NSTGRO25) solicitation was released as an Appendix to the Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) NASA Research Announcement, titled Space Technology Research, Development, Demonstration, and Infusion 2025 (SpaceTech-REDDI-2025). This opportunity, starting at the beginning of the 2025 academic year, will provide up to four years of support for doctoral students, with funding up to $84,000 per year. The NSTGRO25 grant will provide a $40,000 annual stipend, as well as support for tuition, health insurance, and conference attendance. The grant also provides support for onsite research experiences at NASA Centers across the country, and recipients will collaborate with leading NASA experts in space technology to acquire a more detailed understanding of the potential end applications of their space technology efforts and directly disseminate their research results within the NASA community and beyond. To date, over 700 awards have been made to students attending over 110 universities across 42 states and one U.S. territory. NASA expects to make a similar number of NSTGRO25 awards to prior recent solicitation cycles, which have ranged from 50 to 66 new grant awards. Current and prospective doctoral and master’s students should see the NSTGRO25 solicitation for full eligibility requirements. In most cases, proposals must be submitted directly by an accredited U.S. university. The proposal deadline is November 1, 2024 (6 PM Eastern, 3 PM Pacific). I recently visited #NASA's Kennedy Space ?? Center in the US. I always thought space research was a waste of public funds ?? . Why go to the Moon ?? , when we have so much to achieve here on Earth ?? . But this visit completely changed my view. I had heard many young students imagine themselves being a pilot, but not many thought about being an ???? astronaut or support space exploration. At NASA, I met a 4 #IITBombay students who were in Flordia for internships that got me thinking, "What made them come here ?". During my visit I realized 3 major things: 1?? NASA unites a symphony of disciplines – all types of #engineers, #mathematicians, #doctors, communicators, and many more disciplines – all working together to achieve the impossible.?The countless firsts they have achieved were just inspiring. 2?? I realized how the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts - As a #college #admissions #consultant, I often ask my clients to demonstrate a true collaborative spirit while doing research / passion projects during #HighSchool while exploring their curiosity. This sets the tone not only for strong academic progress - but real life #teamwork skills to extend the boundaries of knowledge. It is this kind of stuff , that got NASA to put a man on the moon! 3?? While the hype for #IvyLeague colleges continues amongst Indian families, I found more students from mid-ranked colleges have joined organizations like #ISRO and #NASA. And they are not there for the money . They are there for taking humanity further than we have ever been and showing what's possible. ?? And finally, going back to the funds aspect, I realized that during the #SpaceRace in the 1960's - US spent nearly 4% of their Federal budget on space research, which today stands near 0.5%. For ISRO in India it is below 0.1%. I think sometimes it takes a field visit to shake out preconceived ideas. I recommend trying it out for yourself. I write about #education. 5 years ago I started full time at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. I had been a co-op for 2 years prior so SEVEN whole years in the industry and I have learned a LOT. Biggest takeaways so far? Read below: 1. Everyone, and I DO MEAN EVERYONE, is acting like they know what they are doing when most of the time they are making an educated guess. 2. When you are fresh into the industry, it’s OK to ask questions. Asking questions may feel make you feel like you “look stupid” for not knowing, but in fact NOT asking questions is keeping you stupid. 3. Everyone looks like they have themselves together, don’t worry, you aren’t behind. They’re probably panicked on the inside too. 4. Confidence is earned, arrogance is usually a showy way of telling everyone you have no idea what’s going on. Learning the difference can help you with your career and who to trust. 5. Find a mentor, find a million mentors. Early!!! The more the merrier, get a lot of opinions and different career perspectives. Even if you only talk to someone once, their perspective is valuable. (Even if it’s learning what NOT to do) What advice would you give someone just coming into the industry fresh out of college?

The #frugal #innovation prowess of ISRO - Indian Space Research Organization is inspiring #Indian students to develop affordable technical solutions to explore #space and even settle on the #Moon. Amity International School students got top prize at International Space Settlement Design Competition hosted recently by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration The students designed a fictitious #lunar #settlement that would cost just $36 billion to actually build, which is way more cost-effective than the $200-300 billion estimates of other projects submitted by students from around the world. https://lnkd.in/e2HSwBjs

As a scientist passionate about space exploration, joining the L'SPACE Mission Concept Academy has been nothing short of exhilarating. When I first heard about the opportunity, I knew it was exactly what I needed to dive deeper into the world of space missions and put my skills to the test in a real-world context. Being part of a multidisciplinary team has opened my eyes to the intricacies involved in conceptualizing a space mission. From the moment we began, I realized that every detail matters — from the science objectives to the engineering constraints and even the economics of space travel. Working alongside other talented students and professionals from various backgrounds has not only broadened my perspective but has also taught me the true value of collaboration. My role as a scientist in our team is to define the key scientific goals of our mission. It's my job to ensure that the mission design aligns with the research objectives we aim to achieve.Every decision we make has to be backed by a sound scientific rationale, and it’s thrilling to know that the questions we ask could one day push the boundaries of human knowledge. L'SPACE has also given me hands-on experience with NASA's design processes, something I had only dreamed of before. Learning how missions are proposed, selected, and executed has been eye-opening, and it's inspiring to know that what we’re working on today could lay the groundwork for future space exploration.?This experience has reignited my passion for space science and solidified my goal to continue contributing to space missions in the future.
