If we claim to care about genocide, don’t we need to care about all of them that are happening? We have seen video of what happens in gza. Is that why we care? Do we need to be entertained by the horror of the world to care? I realize the words I am using are shocking. They are deliberate. We need to think about what we are advocating for and why. And I think our critical reasoning faculties have been damaged by the constant assault of human atrocities and (especially in the US) by daily being forced to earn our right to continued existence (shelter, food, etc) We have been convinced that the right to exist simply because we were born should instead be a privilege afforded only to those with enough “resources” or “means.” People keep dying because they were born too close to things the wealthy want or on the wrong patch of land. This is not a game where we trade one set of suffering for another. But nor does that mean creating more suffering will lessen other suffering. This genocide has been ongoing since 2003 with varying degrees of intensity. Was it brought up in elections in 2016? In 2020? Even now in 2024 until a few who were aware seeing the support for gza said “what about Sudan”? Are we asking ourselves why? See other posts I have shared today. Don’t take my conclusions. Reach your own. Think. It’s the worst and the best thing we can do and the only thing that will change anything.
“Over 130 Sudanese women reportedly took their own lives to avoid sexual assault by RSF militia.” Yet no major headlines or much coverage. To those who claim to stand for women’s rights and equality, advocating for issues like equal pay but yet remaining silent when thousands of women face violence, your selective outcry, based on skin colour, region, and clout, has become obvious. The lack of response is loud, especially when the Barbie movie has more support and attention for not winning awards than the lives of these women. I wonder if there would be more symbolic gestures, like cutting hair, if these women had been “forced” to wear hijabs before being violated? P.S. This isn’t Palestine, your free to speak out. #westernprivilege

?? NEW on the Global Observatory: "Challenging the Invisibility of Women Combatants: Five Steps Towards Gender-Responsive DDR" by Julia Palik & Hana Salama Because of the widely held assumption that it is men who carry the weapons and “man” the frontlines for armed groups, women combatants have historically been excluded from reintegration support, and they remain grossly underrepresented in DDR programs. Drawing on research from the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), this article examines the history and progress on the inclusion of women in DDR—and proposes five steps towards more inclusive and gender-responsive DDR processes. In Southeast and East Europe, SEESAC—a joint initiative of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and UNDP, funded by the European Commission—has facilitated the surrender and destruction of over 260,000 firearms and 4 million rounds of ammunition, reducing #violence and creating safer communities. Disarmament is about more than numbers—it fosters #peace, empowers #women, and builds a future rooted in human #dignity and #development. On #HumanRightsDay, let’s recognize how disarmament strengthens human rights by securing communities and ensuring safety for all. In this new piece, my co-author, the wonderful Julia Palik, and I argue that women combatants have been consistently overlooked in DDR (Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration) processes, despite playing critical roles—often carrying weapons, serving on the frontlines, and contributing to the command structure of these groups. While we’ve seen progress in some peace processes, like in Colombia, DDR globally remains a heavily masculinized process. It’s clear that without addressing the specific roles and needs of women, DDR cannot be truly effective. In our article, we provide five practical recommendations for DDR practitioners to help make these processes more inclusive, intersectional, equitable, and gender-responsive. It’s time we shift the narrative and ensure that all participants in conflict, especially women, are recognized and supported in post-conflict transitions. #genderinDDR #inclusivesecurity #peacebuilding #womeninconflict #DDR

New NATO policy on women, peace and security announced at last week's Summit in Washington ?? The new policy outlines four strategic objectives: ?? Strengthen gender-responsive leadership and accountability ?? Increase women’s participation at all levels, including decision-making and leadership ?? Prevent threats that have a disproportionate impact on women and girls ?? Protect women and girls against gender-based violence. For the first time, the policy references new and emerging challenges such as gendered disinformation, Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV), and the gender dimensions of climate change and artificial intelligence. "This new Women, Peace and Security Policy represents our renewed commitment to uphold the values that enhance the unity and resilience of our Alliance" - Irene Fellin, Secretary General Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security. Please listen to this!!! It identifies and shows the results of progressive, left policies. If they are voted in ANYWHERE, we are closer to becoming doomed. America is AT THE TIPPING POINT of collapse! Repost!!
CURIOUS - HAS KAMALA BLACKMAILED THE DNC TO GET THEM TO BACK HER? Why the sudden “all aboard” stance when just a few days ago everyone was interested in walking away? Does her knowledge about Biden, Obama, Congress actions have enough clout to cause politicians to feel threatened with jail time? The DNC had $98 million in donations and it’s just chump change compared to what they are spending. Is it possible that Kamala is blackmailing them OR promising to approve anything that is placed on her desk, and allowing certain people to run military? There is absolutely no other way that politicians who do not believe in her character or abilities would move forward with campaigning with her for the highest seat in our nation. What’s your opinion? #usa, #america, #republican, #vote, #women,
