Another group of GTL employees volunteered at Historic Wagner Farm for their group service outing. Wagner Farm welcomes over 100,000 visitors annually for recreation and learning. The farm attracts school children, families, community gardeners, farmers market shoppers, and participants in a CSA program managed by an award-winning, on-site special needs school. GTL team members cleared a field that grew pumpkins, gourds, and squash to prepare for the next season, and they also harvested corn. Great work team!?#GTLCares

The best program preparing students not only for college but life after their higher education experience.
We had an incredible time celebrating the achievements of our amazing scholars at the Starfish Senior Celebration! A special shoutout to our two Starfish Scholars, who are recipients of the Mike Feeney Scholarship. Thanks to our donors' generosity, we could offer this scholarship for the first time ever. It was truly inspiring to hear from former mentors and scholars, sharing their journey with Starfish Initiative—a perfect example of the impact of our mission and the strength of our community. #StarfishInitiative #YouthEmpowerment

To my Iowa connections: Two bills have been introduced in the Iowa legislature that would have drastic implications on our ability to enjoy parks, trails and wildlife areas in our State. SSB 3129 and its companion bill, HF 2104, would prohibit the Iowa DNR from acquiring land "available for sale at an auction" or "by donation or purchase from a nonprofit corporation that acquired the real property in a competitive manner, including but not limited to at an auction.” The broad language in this bill would set an incredibly dangerous precedent that could severely inhibit the DNR and other non-profits from providing Iowans with areas to recreate in the outdoors. If you enjoy Iowa's trails, parks, and public hunting and fishing areas, you should be incredibly concerned with these bills. Subcommittee meetings are today at 9:30am CT (Senate) and tomorrow at 1:30pm CT (House). If you would like to see continued access to our natural resources and outdoors spaces, please write to each subcommittee and let them know you oppose SSB 3129 and HF 2104. For more info on how to do so, you can follow the below link from INHF. https://lnkd.in/gchVik3Y

A colleague and I discuss how people today seem more tired and edgy. He commented that many of us are dealing with stress from all sides: job, political, financial, work, family, etc. Some days, I become quite overwhelmed -- with my negative thoughts pinging around out of control. When I feel this way, I tell myself I can't change what's going on, but I can change how I react, as well as the choices I make. (I also head out for a bike ride, which always clears my head.) One of my choices, which I post about frequently, is buying US made items whenever possible. The second choice is supporting causes I care about, one of which is the Essex Greenbelt's Osprey program. Each year I donate $100 toward it -- which may not seem like a lot, but it is. (I've been in fundraising and know any amount is always gratefully received.) Greenbelt, a non-profit land trust, conserves land in MA. I'm thrilled to learn a local woman in Haverhill (town next to mine) has donated two parcels of land totaling 90+ acres. I ride my bike past both a couple times a week and noticed the new Greenbelt sign last week. Hurrah! The parcels are adjacent to two small working farms, so it's wonderful this entire area will remain intact. For those of you who love birds, the Osprey cam in Gloucester, MA is now live: https://lnkd.in/ezwQwxu. Annie and Squam have their first egg, which is very exciting. And, here is the link about the parcels now under Greenbelt management. It may not be local to you, but it's a great example of how we can change our part of the world: https://lnkd.in/eYFc-GgY And, a link to my updated Keep It Made blog Welcome page -- about why I do what I do. This was a little scary for me to write. I'm not used to being, what is for me, so honest in saying what I think. https://lnkd.in/eJeiTYuj #blessings #smallchoices #spring
