Happy to share our follow-up work on MedRAG this summer: i-MedRAG: https://lnkd.in/eiDZPhmN! i-MedRAG introduces iterative retrieval-augmented generation, enabling LLMs to generate dynamic follow-up queries and perform step-by-step reasoning. This approach significantly improves the performance of RAG systems on complex medical question-answering tasks, such as USMLE-style questions. Many thanks to my amazing collaborators: Dr. Qiao Jin, Xiao Wang, Prof. Minjia Zhang, Dr. Zhiyong Lu, PhD FACMI, and Prof. Aidong Zhang!

This week, the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) submitted a 6-page letter to outgoing President Biden titled, "Future Opportunities for Science and Technology to Impact the Nation." The letter emphasizes the importance of basic science research as a foundation for innovation and societal progress. One of the elements I find most noteworthy about the letter is its reference to a trend initially reported by the National Science Board: business and industrial investments in science are outpacing federal/public investments in R&D. In fact, the business sector accounted for 76% of total U..S. R&D expenditures according to the 2024 NSB report. As the letter highlights, industry research plays such a significant role in the biomedical research landscape; however, we must not overlook how much of this sector's success is derived from basic science. Basic research findings serve as the starting point for translational research--knowledge that industry researchers can leverage to design clinical trials, develop new drugs and medical devices, and improve existing treatments for humans (and animals!) alike. PCAST's letter serves as an important reminder for the community as we continue to strategize on providing strong support for biomedical research. #PCAST #BiomedicalResearch #Advocacy https://lnkd.in/enpuEkmH

My colleagues Mark Baillie, Alexander Przybylski, Craig Wang and I have just released a paper (together with simulation code and R package) on the topic of variance estimation for covariate-adjusted estimators of average treatment effects in clinical trials with binary endpoints. We hope this work package provides much needed clarity on a fundamental issue in the primary analysis of clinical trials and enables straightforward and robust implementation. We are open to feedback on the paper and R package. Paper: https://lnkd.in/eDDG9bsF Simulation code: https://lnkd.in/exSpqY5W R package (submitted to CRAN): https://lnkd.in/e6t-EeTE

Happy H-Day - I turned 61 today in h-points! Even though we are a commercial company, I think it is important to stay transparent, put some of the research out in the open and make the software tools available to the community. And out of all papers we published over the past two years, the most important one I recommend reading is Here https://lnkd.in/gSqzZctD. This paper tells the story of a novel therapeutic out of genAI. Yep, the same molecule that just completed Phase 2a with good safety and unexpected efficacy. Will be celebrating tonight by starting two more papers.

We are proud to announce the launch of two groundbreaking EJP RD/IRDiRC publications that pave the way for the future of research data sharing and information governance 1: Getting your DUCs in a row - standardising the representation of Digital Use Conditions?https://lnkd.in/erq9292Y? 2: Common conditions of use elements. Atomic concepts for consistent and effective information governance https://lnkd.in/edbagRUe Together, these publications describe a comprehensive approach to summarizing and managing use conditions for biomedical resources. The DUC schema provides a structured method to collect and standardize information, while the common use condition elements ensure consistency and clarity. By assigning permissions and restrictions and specifying the scope and details of conditions, research activities can be better aligned with institutional missions, funding objectives, and regulatory requirements.
