Today, GSSEM CEO Monica W. discussed all things Girl Scouts and innovation with WJR's Chris Renwick at the 2025 Detroit Policy Conference. This year's conference theme was all about innovation for the future. What pairs better than Girl Scouts and innovation? Other than Thin Mints and ice cream, of course! Thank you to WJR 760 AM and Christopher Renwick for a great conversation! #DPC25 #DetroitPolicyConference #GirlScouts #BeyondTheCookie

VMIAC acknowledges today as a day of mourning and loss for so many First Nations people. We won’t say much more because the debate hurts too many people, and we have no interest in adding to the harm. More important than words are our actions. Tomorrow, many VMIAC staff will be at work as usual, in a small action to not recognise the public holiday. On a larger scale, VMIAC is deep into the reflection stage of our Reconciliation Action Plan, where we are examining our role in perpetuating racial divide, insensitivity and non-inclusion, and we’re taking actions to be better as an organisation. We look forward to the day when the government finally hears the loud chorus of First Nations people and their allies demanding change. When that happens, we can celebrate the great things about our country together on an inclusive and celebratory day.

?? To racialized and marginalized folks easing back into the workplace: Remember, the care and grace you are asking for or expecting from your workplace is not misplaced. If your organization has committed to any part of an Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Justice (AEDIJ) journey, providing meaningful care is not only valid but essential. The truth is, you are owed a level of support and understanding that most have yet to normalize in workplaces or even in their personal lives. Keep holding space for those expectations, and know that they are the building blocks to a more compassionate, equitable, and sustainable world and exactly what we need right now. To organizations looking for support on their journey: During my time as Racial Justice Expert at the ARC Hub, I created a resource (designed by Liz Taylor-Johnson) to help organizations embark on or deepen their AEDIJ work. It's important however to remember that this effort is fundamentally relational. True innovation and transformation only occur when you center the experiences of those most directly affected, actively listen to their needs, and then commit to meaningful, measurable action. If you would like to check-in please reach out at [email protected] and if you would like to check out the resource here: https://lnkd.in/eiyQdyiK

I spoke at SOCAP - #impactinvesting conference in #SanFrancisco this year, sharing the story of the research I have just finished on womxn leading systems change and ecosystems in the middle of the country. The truth is I had a two week turnaround to get the speech written and learn the whole thing off by heart - 7 mins on stage, no notes, minimal slides. It is harder than you think.?In fact it was terrifying! This came at a week when I found out some super bad news about my family. The combination of both of these things meant that I was really a ball of anxiety the whole week leading up to it, and I hardly slept as I flew across the country to deliver it, just before Halloween. But before I stepped on stage, I was stressing in the wings, I stopped myself and thought about the stories I was carrying with me from the womxn I had interviewed. I thought this doesnt have to be about me and my performance. Take a breath, do your best and tell that flipping story! I became excited to share this with the world. It is an important story to tell about #othering, #bridging, #perception, #reality, #brilliance and ultimately, its boost of #inspiration when the world really feels like it needs one. Plus this important message that I want to shout from the rooftops: “We are in the process of building the field of #systemschange… and now building the field of #systemicinvesting. As we fix those concepts, as evaluation frameworks take hold, we must be careful of the unintended consequences for the people that we leave behind, if we don’t include them in the conversation.” Of course I missed a few bits and forgot my clicker and it wasn’t perfect. But given all the things going on, I am very proud of myself. You can watch my speech here:?https://lnkd.in/gA5UYVJv Here is an article about all the #systemschange speakers SOCAP Global article 12 Real-World Examples of Systems Change in Action, a compellation of systems change speakers at the conference. As facilitators, have you ever wondered how much emotions should we actually bring into our facilitation sessions? How does the mood of others affect the way we facilitate? In celebration of FNS's 20th anniversary, me and Angeline Chng will be doing a learning session on Emotional Agility in Process Facilitation. In this 3-hour learning session, we'll be borrowing concepts from Newfield Ontological Coaching to explore the undervalued role of emotions and how it can shape your facilitation presence & effectiveness. We'll also explore ways which we can be more intentional with how we are feeling amidst the intense focus on processes. No promises that you will feel better after this but we promise you'll have more "choices" thereafter.
FNS CoP: 3 August 2024 Saturday 9:00am to 12:30pm Exploring Emotional Agility in Facilitation- a FNS 20th Anniversary event. Register here: https://lnkd.in/g4UPV5kW

A mission statement is not something you write overnight but fundamentally, your mission statement becomes your constitution, the solid expression of your vision and values. It becomes the criterion by which you measure everything else in your life. #91dayyear #liveonpurpose #HaveyourBestWeek #HBCUbiz #HBCU #Blackbusiness #GrowYourBusiness #4GChallenge
