“Is there anything I can do for you?” While seemingly straightforward, this question carries the weight of true intention and commitment. It’s a question that finds its roots in our most vulnerable. We’ve all asked it, hoping to provide solace, yet not always fully grasping the depth of what it might entail. It’s a ritual of care, a placeholder for words we can’t find. Are we genuinely ready to step into the arena of action, or are we merely performing a courteous dance, silently praying not to be taken up on our offer? When we thank veterans for their service, do we really mean it or are we just going through the motions? If you want to go beyond the "thank you" get your business Veteran READY, which helps ensure your veteran employees thrive in the workplace. A Lesson on Leadership from the Filthy Thirteen: WWII's most unorthodox heroes Ever heard of the paratrooper unit that jumped into D-Day with mohawks and war paint? Meet Jake McNiece and the Filthy Thirteen - a group of misfits who became legendary warriors. Here's why their story matters: 1. Leadership isn't always by the book 2. Unorthodox methods can yield extraordinary results 3. True grit often comes in unexpected packages 4. Mission focus trumps traditional discipline 5. Even the wildest spirits can find redemption Key takeaways: ? McNiece's unconventional leadership saved lives ? The unit's "deliberate disobedience" was actually strategic ? Their nickname came from literally being filthy (for a good reason) ? 4 combat jumps - a rare feat for WWII paratroopers The Filthy Thirteen proves that sometimes, the most effective soldiers don't fit the mold. Remember: In leadership and life, results matter more than appearances. Learn more by listening to my conversation with Richard Killblane. Link in the comments. #leadership #history #wwii #strategy

As arguably the strongest military in history in terms of physical force, we must not fail to understand that we fight for “people, not platforms”. We will do more harm than good if we rely solely on our strength, neglecting the relational leadership essential to helping a population thrive in their respective contexts. In Inter Populum: The Journal of Irregular Warfare and Special Operations, our board member, Dr. Joseph Long, wrote a thought-provoking article, The Liberator’s Dilemma: the Paradox of American Leadership. “Joint SOF leaders at every echelon must leverage relational rather than transactional leadership styles as populations and their associated partner forces determine who wins or loses in strategic competition. In this space, the population chooses a winner based on utilitarian preferences, independent of the more powerful military’s ability to leverage physical force.” We encourage you to read this important piece starting on page 83: https://lnkd.in/dfnwHauR #specialoperations #specialoperationsforces #irregularwarfare #relationalleadership #military David Cook,?Daniel Elkins,?Doug Livermore,??? “The Military Order of World ?? Wars” Military officers who have retired or are still in service possess a wealth of experience, knowledge, and leadership skills that can greatly benefit the Military Order of World Wars (MOWW). By joining MOWW, these officers can continue to serve their country in a different capacity, leveraging their expertise to contribute to the organization's mission of promoting patriotism, fostering goodwill, and advocating for a strong national defense. Their participation adds depth and perspective to the discussions and initiatives within MOWW, enriching the experience for all members. Moreover, retired and active-duty military officers play a crucial role in mentoring the next generation of leaders within MOWW. By sharing their insights and guidance, they help cultivate a new cadre of patriotic and principled leaders who are committed to serving their country and upholding its values. Through mentorship programs and leadership development initiatives, these seasoned officers can impart invaluable lessons learned from their own military careers, shaping the future of the organization and the nation. Beyond MOWW, military officers, both retired and active, should also consider joining a variety of civic organizations and professional organizations. These affiliations provide opportunities for networking, professional development, and community engagement, allowing officers to broaden their horizons, stay connected with fellow service members, and make meaningful contributions to society. By participating in diverse organizations, military leaders can gain new perspectives, foster collaboration across different sectors, and promote positive change in their communities and beyond. In conclusion, military officers who have retired or are still in service have much to gain from joining the Military Order of World Wars, as well as other civic and professional organizations. Through their involvement, they can continue to serve their country, mentor the next generation of leaders, and contribute to the betterment of society. By embracing these opportunities for engagement and collaboration, they uphold the values of service, patriotism, and leadership that define the military profession. As we honor Veterans Day in the United States, I'm reminded of Winston Churchill's words: "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." For our US veterans, this courage is a way of life. They exemplify resilience, the grit to push forward in the face of setbacks, and the commitment to serve a greater purpose. In business, too, we face challenges and moments of adversity where success feels distant and failure too close. But like our US veterans, it’s our courage to continue, to adapt, and to keep moving forward that defines our leadership. This Veterans Day, let’s take a moment to learn from those who have served. Let’s challenge ourselves to embody that same strength and determination in our own fields. To all veterans—thank you for your courage, your resilience, and your unwavering dedication. #VeteransDay #MotivationalMonday #Leadership #Resilience #JumpingCurves #ActivatingTransformation?

???? Honoring Our Veterans & The Power of Servant Leadership ???? Today, we pause to honor the courageous men and women who have served our country. Our veterans exemplify the highest form of servant leadership—sacrificing their own comfort, safety, and sometimes even their lives to protect and serve others. Their commitment to something greater than themselves reminds us all of the power of stepping up and taking ownership, not just in our personal lives, but in our roles as leaders. At Marq Neasman Consulting, we believe that true leadership starts with service. It’s about owning your role with a purpose that goes beyond titles or accolades. Our veterans have shown us that leadership is about responsibility, integrity, and impact. As we honor them today, let's also reflect on how we can embody these values in our communities, workplaces, and homes. To all who have served, and to those who continue to lead by example—thank you. ???????? ???????? ???????????????????? ???????? ???? ??????? Yesterday, I received an unexpected call from a former soldier of mine, Smith (pictured top left). I haven’t seen Smith since 2017. Despite the years, when I saw his name, I immediately answered. He’s been considering some career moves and wanted to talk through them, much like we would when he was a 19-year-old private. He’d been watching my transition from afar and during our call he was probing into what life is like on the “outside” and how I found my way. He reminded me of how I advised him as a young man in the Army, citing specific examples in vivid detail as if these moments occurred days, not years ago. I could tell by the way he spoke that those moments meant a lot and stayed with him over a decade later after we first met. I was very pleased to learn that my leadership had left such a lasting impression on him and he’s found so much success in the Military. Beyond proud of him. This is a reminder to my network that being in leadership is much more than 1:1’s and year-end reviews. Your team should be able to lean on you for guidance, support, and mentorship. Pour into your people. Leadership is not a responsibility that should be taken lightly. Take care of your teams and make every day count! #LeadershipImpact #MentorshipMatters #Veterans #TheBrotherhood #82airborne
