Just wrapped up an interesting project - Web Application with Embedded AI ,PizzAI-Embeddable-AI-Project! ???? This web application, powered by Flask, integrates HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to deliver a sophisticated yet user-friendly experience using the embeddable AI concept. Instead of using Watson's API, it leverages Google's speech-to-text and text-to-speech services, simplifying the integration process while maintaining high functionality. The project employs Jinja2 for template inheritance, ensuring a consistent design and functionality across multiple pages. Additionally, it harnesses the NLTK library for natural language processing tasks and integrates with Google Cloud services for added functionalities and scalability. This project came with its share of challenges. One notable issue was the speech recognition accuracy, particularly when recording customer addresses. To improve this, the AI model needs more diverse training datasets. Occasionally, the application encounters an AttributeError in the clean_text() function due to the AI model failing to store processed words, which requires further debugging. Enhancing usability by adding alternate input methods, such as text, and improving address recognition by incorporating location-specific stop words are potential areas for improvement. While the project offers a robust alternative to WatsonX AI by utilizing Google Cloud services, it could not be hosted online due to the potential for quickly exhausting the free tier of Google's cloud services, making continuous hosting unfeasible. Spending yesterday using Cursor AI (https://www.cursor.com/) and it was pretty cool. Basically it is a fork of VS Code that bakes in AI. I'd heard about it from several people, so I tried it yesterday. Because it is largely VS Code, it was really natural to use. The first thing that I did was a small refactor, and it really sped it up by correctly suggesting the right changes. I haven't loved Github Copilot. For whatever reason, its suggestions I don't use often enough that I ended up turning it off. Cursor's suggestions so far have been much closer to what I intended to do. I'll be using it for some new development today and look forward to seeing how it does. If you are looking to play around with some AI assisted development, I suggest giving it a whirl. #CursorAI

How we created fixgrammar.ai. Diana Pertseva noticed three things: 1. A lot of people (including ourselves) use LLM-based chatbots to check and correct their writing. 2. The popularity of the search term "fix grammar" has doubled over the last two years. 3. The domain "fixgrammar.ai" is free and doesn't cost a fortune. From that moment, it was clear that the opportunity lay right in front of us. I was also excited to take on this project for several reasons: 1. I love building simple single-use tools using modern AI models (see also: naivigator.app). Unlike multi-faceted chatbots, these apps serve a single purpose and are extremely easy to adopt and use. 2. Completing a project in just two days is incredibly rewarding! 3. It was nice to take a short break from networking and job interviews. The main objective was to make the app fast, that is why I couldn't rely on Python anymore and switched to Node.js/Express. Initially, I wanted to use the Google Gemini 1.5 Flash model for language processing due to its speed. However, after building the prototype, I found out that their Node.js library doesn't support content streaming in v1beta yet, and there is no easy (or at least documented) way to switch to v1. At this point, I decided to stop struggling and just switch to the OpenAI API that I used for building most of my projects before. Their Node.js library is fully functional, the documentation is incredibly clear and concise, and the pricing is still very competitive. GPT 3.5 Turbo is fast and cheap yet a very capable model—especially for such an easy task as spell and grammar check. The front end was initially designed in Webflow with further manual tweaks and a sprinkle of JavaScript. The project runs on Cloud Run: as usual, it's my go-to platform. Easy to deploy, create CI/CD workflows, and monitor logs and errors. And here you have it: a fully functional AI-powered web app built over a weekend. I've been reading about people generating complex code reviews using AI, so when I was asked to create a simple HTML email template, I figured I'd see what all the hollering is about when it comes to code creation. Could Perplexity.ai save me coding time by creating usable code for this purpose? Spoiler alert: Yes, it can. Yes, it really does work. Here's the process I went through. THE INITIAL PROBLEM I need to create an HTML email for a project's donation request to its members. Gmail does not have the ability to create HTML emails within its interface. After doing a little research, it turns out you have to: - Create the HTML file in another program - Open the HTML file in a browser - Copy the displayed output from the browser - Paste that into a new email in gmail Kind of convoluted to write it all out, but pretty simple in practice. I'm no novice when it comes to HTML, but I didn't want to spend time doing something that AI could (potentially) do in a couple seconds. This isn't rocket science, just a little HTML. I've documented my process including the iterative prompts and the final results. If you haven't tried it before, it's a nice, fun project to see how all this works.
