THE EXPERT'S DILEMMA The "Expert's Dilemma," also known as the "Innovation Adoption Dilemma," involves the challenge of implementing new technologies in environments where experts are deeply entrenched in the established methods. Often, these experts may unintentionally or intentionally underestimate the value of new technologies due to their comfort and familiarity with current systems, which can slow down adoption or even lead to the rejection of innovative solutions. To overcome this challenge, there are numerous management strategies to educate, train, and motivate experts on how to embrace new technologies. However, one of the most effective approaches, in my experience has been to initially bypass experts as the primary users. Examples of Successful Technology Adoption by Targeting Non-Experts: - Dental CAD/CAM Systems for the fabrication of crowns, initially gained traction with dentists before being adopted by dental technicians. - Clear Aligners, initially found success with general practitioners (GPs), and only later expanded into orthodontic practices. - Digital Dentures were initially more embraced by crown and bridge (C&B) labs and only later adopted by denture labs. Recommendation for Lab Owners: When introducing new technologies in your lab, it might be beneficial to initially avoid your expert technicians, and instead empower driven individuals who are still exploring their professional path. This strategy can foster an environment where new technologies are not only accepted but can thrive. www.gro3x.com SAVE & GROW with Gro3X!
