As the only brown person in the top ten U.S. orchestras, Krishna Thiagarajan has rooted his vision for classical music in the belief that Seattle’s Benaroya Hall is a space that belongs to everyone. Consider adding an African American Studies course to your summer plan of study: AfroAmer156 is the story of how Black music became one of the world’s dominant cultural forces, and how it shaped the musical, social and political landscape of the United States from the end of World War II until the present. It considers how Black music articulates survival, redemption, and reinvention, how those themes reflect the African-American experience in postwar 20th and 21st-century America, and how those themes can be heard in the music we hear today. Musical styles covered in the course include the blues, gospel, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, soul, funk, disco, and hip-hop.

The Colorado Symphony and the Bayerische Philharmonie have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as part of the City2City Munich-Denver Economic Partnership, which was announced at the opening ceremony of this year's Denver Christkindlmarket. The joint purpose of the MOU is to promote cutting-edge international musical exchange aimed at promoting and demonstrating the relevance of classical music on both sides of the Atlantic.
