One of the?Australian Children's Music Foundation (ACMF)?initiatives?is to support the children in care at the Sydney Children's Hospital - The Ukulele Project, sparking creativity and imagination in a time of need through music.
One of the exciting and meaningful activities we provide as part of our ongoing Music Therapy Program at the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick is The Ukulele Project. Not only are the children given ukuleles to learn and play during their hospitalisation but they are also encouraged to decorate their ukulele however they want. This helps spark their creativity and imagination, takes their mind off their troubles, and lightens and brightens their day too. Our Founder and CEO, Don Spencer OAM, caught up with the team from Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) to tell us more about this wonderful initiative.

"UNBROKEN- NATIONAL ANTHEM" BY MATT-Q https://lnkd.in/g9qYVHnh One major reason why I embarked on the path of music, using it to promote awareness for Special Educational Needs (SEN) is due to choir teachers who encouraged me to inculcate what I have been given. In a situation where a few guys were rostered to sing the National Anthem acapella in the morning during flag raising (yeah, that was the practice in the school), I ended up doing most of the duty. I became known as Mr "MAJULAH SINGAPURA", but this gave me my baptism of fire. For a guy with SEN which were undiagnosed then and used to being called stupid, my maiden attempts singing for the school community were INTIMIDATING. I was shaking like a leaf, but because those choir teachers never gave up on me, even when my voice cracked in the morning due to lack of warming up or sickness, I was inspired to pursue this path of PASSION. Some implied recently, that I have PASSION, but meant rather obviously that there was little substance. PASSION, without discipline, focus and learning through repeated failures means misdirected energy and inconsistency. That is true for Neuro-typical individuals already. It is unlikely, that persons of experience in a particular career or skill for so many years, would have just lasted so long just because of PASSION, which is not even rational. Those with SEN who had to work TWICE AS HARD and had to devise innovative ways to survive can tell you a thing or two about FOCUSED METHODOLOGY and HONING a RIGOUR OF DISCIPLINE that involved much failing, but in the end, were proven to be credible, reliable and effective. It is because guys like us struggle with grasping what others may consider BASIC that we learned how TO BREAK THINGS down and REASSEMBLE them by capturing the MAIN IDEA and ESSENCE of a concept or principle. It is because we struggle with divergent thoughts that we've disciplined ourselves to form STRUCTURED FRAMEWORKS that form the BACKBONE of comprehension, evaluation and comparison. And because we did not get all these easily, we learned how to simplify and teach them. Could it be possible that such individuals who have braved the merciless neurotypical world where there was little awareness nor understanding for neurodiversity, have gotten by and helped so many other appreciative students for so many years just based ON PASSION ALONE? To benefit, one must be willing to work for it because there are no short cuts. To those who are adverse to it, naturally, the rigour will give them 'low morale' because results do not seem immediate. We then take it out on those who are trying to really help us and have seen how the UNLOCKING of that paradigm would change lives. #nopurpose #nohope #nomeaning #nopatience #nofocus #norationale #nologic #nopoint #broken #giveup #matthewqueksingapore

Being with the right people, at the right place is the game changer! In a social experiment conducted by Washington Post.. Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, dressed in casual clothes, stood near a wall at DC railway station for 45 mins. Few Passer-bys stopped there for few mins, few spared him a dollar and few gave few quarters. In total Joshua collect about $30+ in about 45 mins. Just days before this experiment, Joshua had performed at Boston’s Symphony Hall, where even the cheapest seats were over $100 and all seats were sold out. The Joshua Bell experiment shows that context and the right audience are crucial for recognition. It makes us rethink how we see value and talent in everyday life and highlights the importance of showcasing skills in the right setting. Whether in arts, business, profession, or personal life, being with the right people and place is key to getting recognition. Thoughts?

"ALL I ASK OF YOU" BY MATT-Q Vocalist: Matthew Quek (Matt-Q) https://lnkd.in/gJKUi4q6 I envisioned this Science Fiction tale of a possible future worst case scenario; a dystopian reality I hope never to live to see ever come true. The reason why I produced this music video is because I'd like to see and be part of a future where our identities as individuals in a nation are not based primarily on how smart, how able, how rich, how capable we are perceived to be. When our identities are based on what we can perform and do to earn our status and bragging rights, the danger is two fold.? A) Firstly, when we do really well and rise the ranks, we think that we deserve everything because we are awesome, forgetting that a lot of our 'blessings' came from sources not of our own making. That causes us to lose touch with our humanity where we look down on those whom we think do not measure up and we show no compassion nor mercy to those who we view as inferior to us; although no one would be caught dead admitting that openly or publicly.? B) The other end of the spectrum is that those who try very hard and do not seem to be able to thrive in the system due to inherent disabilities and disadvantages, will crash and burn because if one's identity is based solely on what one can do quantifiably, then it means that one is condemned forever as a loser and liability. You just CMI (Cannot make it). Both extremities are terrible because it reduces people's worth to mere transactional value and how useful one is to another. The horrors that are unleashed on humans when we start 'objectifying' one another knows no limit and we have seen horrific cases of such degradation in the annals of human history. But if our identities and worth are based on something or someone who is immutably consistent, then we are no longer defined solely on whether we make it or not in the system, but, rather, by something else altogether that really makes us truly human and changes the way we approach situations and treat people. We now begin to work hard and do well not because we are TRYING to win approval and acceptance. Rather, it is knowing that we are loved and accepted much more than we could have even thought possible that REALLY URGES and INCENTIVES us towards doing well in everything because there is a MUTUAL RELATIONSHIP BASED ON LOVE, TRUST AND CONFIDENCE and we want to do our best to please those who really love us.?? What we base our identities and worth on will determine what kind of people we turn out to be individually and communally as a nation. #allIaskofyou #phantomoftheopera #matthewqueksingapore #dystopian #sciencefiction #planetoftheapes #transactional #identity

The Essence of Luxury: Silence and Stillness In the fast-paced world we live in, luxury often finds its true essence in silence and stillness. It's remarkable how some brands have positioned themselves to capture this essence so effectively in their branding and marketing strategies. Capturing the essence of luxury through silence and stillness in branding and marketing is not just about aesthetics; it's about understanding the deeper desires of the consumer. It's about offering them a refuge, a moment of peace amidst the chaos. This is where true luxury lies. As we continue to evolve in our marketing strategies, it's essential to remember that sometimes, less is more. Embracing silence and stillness can elevate a brand, creating a timeless appeal that resonates deeply with those who seek not just products, but profound experiences.
The silence before the symphony. The stillness in the storm. In the buzz of summer in the city, Aman New York provides space to draw breath. https://lnkd.in/ejfybVHi #TheSpiritofAman

Thank you Anita Gouveia! As a coach, I work with many executives who have spent 10, 20, or even 30 years climbing the corporate ladder, logging 60+ hours a week, only to realize they feel burnt out or disconnected from their work. What’s striking is that they often knew something was off long before they hit this point. They recognized they weren’t growing or energized but kept going—held back by the fear of change, the weight of others’ expectations, or the prestige tied to their title. Sound familiar? It reminds me of a story about someone who didn’t even?want?to be in the choir but felt the pressure to perform because of who was watching. When I asked why she was so nervous, she said, “I just want to prove I can make it.” And haven’t we all been there? Pushing for a promotion we’re not sure we’d even enjoy. Striving for recognition that doesn’t really matter to us, just to prove we deserve it. Chasing goals because they’ll look good on paper—not because they light us up inside. But here’s the truth: tying our worth to external achievements can trap us in a cycle of stress and dissatisfaction. At some point, we have to ask ourselves: ???If I get this, then what? ???Is this what I truly want—or what I think I should want? If you’re realizing you’re in the wrong “choir,” take a deep breath. It’s never too late to realign your career with your values and aspirations. Start with these 3 steps: 1???Pause before you quit. Don’t make a rash decision. You’ve invested years in your career—give yourself time to figure out what you truly want. 2???Reflect deeply. Get clear on your values, your ideal career, and the future you envision. Write a statement that captures your purpose—something you can articulate in a few minutes. 3???Take action. Small steps toward your ideal future add up. Don’t let fear or perfectionism keep you stuck. Your life is too important to spend doing work that doesn’t inspire you. Remember, you are enough as you are. Your worth isn’t defined by titles, achievements, or anyone else’s expectations. If this resonates, I’d love to hear your thoughts—are you chasing something you truly want, or something you think you?should?want?
My daughter is auditioning for her school choir. She doesn’t actually want to be in the choir, she’s only doing it because all her friends are. The day before, she was sharing how nervous she was, and I tried to reassure her by reminding her that she didn’t really want to be a part of it anyway. She snapped back, “But I still want to make it!” I had to laugh because, honestly, haven’t we all been there? Wanting something just for the sake of getting it, even when we don’t actually want it? Maybe it’s a promotion we’re not even sure we’d enjoy, but we still want to know we were their best option. Or we push for recognition that doesn’t really matter to us, just to prove we’re deserving of it. Or maybe we go after opportunities that are more about how we’ll be seen than what we really want to do. The thing is, more often than not, it’s not about the actual thing and more about proving we’re capable, worthy, or good enough. But her words reminded me how easy it is to tie our worth to these external wins. And sometimes, it’s worth asking ourselves: If I get this, then what? Is this what I truly want—or what I think I should want? Because in the end, chasing something for the wrong reasons can leave us with more stress. Sometimes, the best thing we can do is let it go, and trust we’re #enough as we are.
