Veterans Day is a national holiday in the United States that honors all military members who have served, whether in times of peace or conflict. The holiday is observed on November 11th and has multiple meanings, including: Commemorating the end of World War I: Veterans Day originated in 1919 as Armistice Day, the first anniversary of the 1918 armistice that ended World War I. The armistice was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Honoring veterans' service and sacrifices: Veterans Day is a day to recognize the dedication of veterans and the sacrifices made by their families. Remembering the importance of veterans' service: As the country moves its efforts further away from wars, Veterans Day serves as a reminder of the important sacrifices veterans have made. Some ways to honor veterans on Veterans Day include attending events, visiting sites, or simply showing your appreciation for veterans. It can be as simple as "Thank you for your service" or "Thank you for serving our country" What are you doing today to honor those who have served? #veteransday #forevergrateful #agwomenconnect #thankyouforyourservice

Your Post has triggered my curity: to know if there was a role that the “Tuskegee Airmen” or the “Red Tails” served during the Vietnam War Era? This will be my next Research Project!
Between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, 3.9 million Americans served in the Vietnam War. Today, we pay tribute to those veterans and their families, many of whom never received the recognition or gratitude they deserved when they returned home. To those veterans, as well as the nearly 60,000 who didn’t make it home, we thank you endlessly for your service and sacrifice. ?? #NationalVietnamWarVeteransDay

Today is Memorial Day, where we remember and honor our fallen soldiers. Do you know about the long history of Native Americans serving in the military? Take a look at the article "Reflections on Native Americans and Memorial Day" from Native News Online, written by by Levi Rickert: https://rb.gy/5n6a98 "Throughout American history, American Indians and Alaska Natives have proudly served and died for the United States of America. According to the Oxford Companion to American Military History, American Indians and Alaska Natives have the highest record of military service per capita compared to any other racial/ethnic group in the United States. Remarkably, even before American Indians became citizens of the United States in 1924, during World War I (July 28, 1914 – November 11, 1918), some 12,500 American Indians served in the armed forces. They fought for freedom when they weren’t even citizens of this country. Almost two-thirds of American Indians who served did so in the infantry, where they won widespread praise for bravery and achievement. Almost 5% of American Indian combat soldiers lost their lives, compared to 1% of American forces overall." Did you know? Jamaican soldiers played a significant role in both World War I and World War II, contributing to global efforts with bravery and dedication. During World War I, over 15,000 Jamaicans enlisted to serve in the British West Indies Regiment. Despite facing harsh conditions and racial discrimination, Jamaican soldiers fought valiantly in key battles across Europe, particularly in the trenches of France and Belgium. Their courage helped pave the way for greater recognition of Caribbean contributions to the war effort. In World War II, more than 25,000 Jamaican men and women served in various capacities, from combat roles to support and supply services. The Jamaican and Caribbean troops were part of the British Caribbean Forces, and they fought in critical theaters such as North Africa and Italy. Their involvement was instrumental in defeating the Axis powers, and their contributions were integral to the Allied victory. #JamaicanHeroes #WWI #WWII #CaribbeanLegacy #JamaicanSoldiers #JamaicaRemembranceDay #BlackHistory #JamaicaInWWI #JamaicaInWWII #CaribbeanContribution #HistoryMatters #MilitaryHistory #JamaicaPride #LegacyOfCourage #JamaicanHistory #CaribbeanWarEffort #GlobalImpact #HonoringOurHeroes
