As we approach COP29, the urgency for effective emissions reduction strategies has never been clearer. The COP29 Framework for Action emphasizes the need for comprehensive measures to combat climate change. While many strategies focus on land-based solutions, we must not overlook the incredible potential of water-based solutions in our fight against climate change. We are pioneering innovative methods through our Net Blue? solution to reduce harmful algal blooms and sequester significant amounts of carbon at the same time. As we join industry leaders at COP29 Azerbaijan, we look forward to the discussions around innovative solutions for tackling climate change.

Global climate discussions have long been driven by the need for substantial resources to tackle global warming, adapt to its effects, and transition away from fossil fuels. Under the Paris Agreement, nations are required to set a new climate finance target for 2025 and beyond, building on the $100 billion benchmark and adjusting it to address the needs of developing countries. This fund, termed the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG), has already faced difficulties, with disagreements over funding sources and recipients. With COP29 approaching, here’s an explanation of what’s at stake. As world leaders gather in Baku for the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), the focus is crystal clear: ramp up global climate finance and solidify national climate commitments. With the pressing need to limit global warming to 1.5°C, the stakes have never been higher. What’s on the Agenda? New Climate Finance Goals Negotiators aim to set ambitious new finance targets beyond the $100 billion per year mark, crucial for supporting developing nations in their climate mitigation and adaptation efforts. National Climate Plans Countries are gearing up to present their updated national climate action plans, with a 2025 deadline looming. These plans are key to achieving the Paris Agreement goals and advancing global sustainable development. Adaptation and Loss & Damage Significant progress is expected in operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund, enhancing support for countries facing irreversible damage due to climate impacts. This year also marks a unique convergence with other major environmental conferences, presenting a unified approach to tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. It’s a pivotal moment for our planet, and the decisions made here could define our collective environmental future.

??The United Nations’ latest NDC Synthesis Report reveals a sobering reality: current national #climate commitments fall drastically short of the reductions required to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Despite recent efforts, nations’ existing Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), even if fully implemented, would yield only a 2.6% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, relative to 2019 levels. In stark contrast, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) indicates that a 43% cut is essential to prevent the most severe climate consequences.
