Methanol maybe. maritime-executive.com reports that CMA. GM has taken delivery of their first ever methanol capable powered ship, the Iron. Technically, it's a dual fuel ship. According to the article, CMA CGM Iron is part of a fleet of 12 methanol capable ships in order worth $2 billion quote. The ship is a new milestone on the path toward net 0 carbon by 2050. CMA CGM Iron is 146,000 deadweight tons with the capacity of approximately 13,000 TEU. The vessel measures 1099 feet or 335 meters. The sister ships, which will include Cmas, cobalt, argon, platinum, mercury, helium, Krypton, thorium, osmium, silver, copper and gold will progressively be deployed in 2025 and 2026. Methanol is a new spin on the alternative field ships for CMA CGM as it has taken delivery of 12 LNG vessels in 2024. He claims that it will have 153 ships capable of low carbon fuel use in the form of bio gas, bio methanol, and even synthetic fuels.
