From 13th to 16th of June the ClayBrick Association of Southern Africa was gathering its members for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Western Cape Region. The AGM has already become a part of Rieter Morando’s annual event calendar. Sustainability and environmental impact was this year’s main topic. We can’t but agree with the efforts to reach lower CO2 emissions and increase social responsibility in our industry. Here at Rieter Morando we develope exceptional clay treatment solutions not only for heavy clay business, but also for cement producers. Our clay preparation line allows to reduce CO2 emissions in cement production by using clay as Supplementary Cementitious Material. ?? Congratulations to the 2024 #BrownieAwards winner "Anaerobic Bioremediation Facilitates Site Redevelopment " (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) in the REMEDIATE: Technological Innovation category, sponsored by Milestone Environmental Contracting Inc. In this project, all soil and groundwater were remediated through anaerobic bioremediation below ground surface on the site itself. Offsite disposal was entirely avoided. A customized mix of solid and liquid amendments containing micro and macronutrients was mixed into the contaminated soils with an excavator as fine-grained soils made injection methods impractical. Overall remediation costs were approximately 90 per cent less when compared to excavate and remove estimates. Remediation was completed within two years and construction of a new fast food outlet is underway. The site will be a source of local employment and increased tax revenue for the city since redevelopment. ?? ?? ??????'?? ???????? ???????? ??????????????, ???????????????? ???????? ???????? ??????! ?? Alongside our Norwegian partner, Nordic Bulk AS, we recently supplied a second wash plant to Feiring to enable the recovery of up to 300tph of quarry dust material at its Bj?nndalen quarry, helping the company to reduce waste and preserve natural resources in Norway while recovering valuable sand and aggregates that are in-demand in the construction industry. “It costs money to do the right thing. But for those of us who live to improve resource utilisation, we could no longer see these surplus masses lying unused. A surplus product, often considered waste, has been turned into gold” Fredrik Brubakken, head of department. Revolutionizing reservoir renovation: The Grassholme project???? In the heart of County Durham, UK, the Grassholme Reservoir stands as a testament to engineering excellence and environmental stewardship. Faced with the challenges of embankment stability and the relentless forces of nature, Naue Group embarked on an ambitious renovation project. Utilizing our advanced geosynthetic solutions, including Secugrid?, Carbofol? HDPE, and Secutex?, the reservoir's resilience against high water levels and safeguarded its picturesque surroundings have been ensured. This case study not only showcases our commitment to innovative engineering but also highlights our collaborative efforts with Northumbrian Water, Esh Stantec, and Groundwork Services Durham to secure a sustainable future for Grassholme Reservoir. Dive into the full story of how we stabilized the dam, protected the environment, and enhanced the site for future generations. Landowners - how much money are you leaving to rot on the ground? Recently I have been noticing more and more areas of felled woodland in my own local area (Central Scotland). What is apparent is a lot of the brash, stumps and thin stem wood is being left on the forest floor to rot. I would estimate that in an acre of felled land there is around 20 tonnes of unrecovered wood left to decay. So is that wood worth anything to you? Is it worth removing for another use? #biomass The general thinking is that the value is in the stem wood and in the short round wood for fuel or board manufacture. The rest is not very exciting as it has no perceived worth, so better to leave it on the forest floor to decay, allowing the nutrients to go back into the ground (which is true if you want to wait 20 years). Now stumps are probably too hard to remove. You can remove whole stumps with the right gear, or you can grind them BUT both options are expensive (specialist gear and the volume you get for a lot of work is likely to be very little). Brash and thin stem wood, however, may be another matter. Everyone thinks of chips! Not sure if it is a UK thing (as we all like chips) but chipping is probably not the best option for brash or small stem wood. For example chips can be bought at £45 - £55/ tonne online today (green). The time you harvest the wood and condition it, you will be lucky to make £10/tonne. So even with 20 tonnes per acre, you are likely to make very little for your hard efforts (£200/ acre). Biochar could be your pot of gold! Interestingly, biochar is today being sold at between £1000 and £4000 per tonne. For 1 tonne of wood you could yield around 200kg of biochar, meaning you could possible get between £200 and £800/ tonne for every tonne of 'waste' wood recovered from the forest floor. Now that means you could possible generate upto £16,000 an acre for your 'waste' wood (probably more than you will get for your stem wood). The challenge is processing! Or is it? https://lnkd.in/emtMkakR So how much money are you leaving on the forest floor? ??

Tracking carbon prices can be a challenging task. Here's a look at a few U.S.-based prices for both compliance and voluntary markets.
I've added a couple of voluntary prices to this carbon price tracker. Weyerhaeuser recently announced an agreement for the sale of nearly 32,000 IFM carbon credits at $29 per credit. These credits are generated from the company's Kibby Skinner project in Maine. Also in Maine, Acadian Timber Corp. reported selling 1,500 credits from the Anew-Katahdin project for $25 per credit. Looking forward to tracking more prices as the market develops!

A planned subdivision near the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie has some residents raising concerns about building new homes on land formerly used by oil and gas companies. The neighborhood is known as Redtail Ranch 2024, a 290-acre development that includes 587 single-family and townhomes as well as roughly 29 acres of open space. Greenwood Village-based Stratus Companies has been trying to get the project approved for nearly four years, and Erie’s Town Council has been skeptical of the development. Redtail Ranch also raises questions about how former oil and gas communities like Erie can repurpose land once used for natural resource extraction. If approved, the neighborhood would be located between three landfills. One is the infamous Columbine Landfill, where computer company IBM dumped more than 1,500 barrels — roughly 84,000 gallons — of solvents several decades ago. There are also 32 oil and gas wells surrounding the community, which Erie town staff described as an “eyesore.” Erie’s town council laid over a bill to approve the project during its last scheduled public hearing on April 23. When the project was brought up again for discussion on May 14, the town council again decided to push back the approval until a later date. Doing so would give the developer “additional time to address some of the issue raised in the public hearing,” Town Trustee Dan Hoback said. The next time the development is expected to be discussed is June 25. #oilandgas #development #eriecolorado #wastedumping Town of Erie https://lnkd.in/gerf8_ep
