#FinancialResilience is important to ensure companies are well-positioned to take advantage of market opportunities as they arise. Otherwise, when the unexpected happens, small businesses are forced to react rather than being proactive which can result in small businesses having to cut costs, lay off staff, and put advancements on hold in tough times. Sustainable, profitable growth is easier said than done, but by utilizing business valuation services such as #Integro360, it allows small businesses to benchmark their performance within their industry to see where they can improve and close gaps. “This guy has no idea what he’s asking for….does he pay attention to his own numbers?” “If this bank throws one more wrench into this closing, I’m going to scream.” “I don’t want to sell equity to this guy just to make him believe we’re aligned” 3 of these were said by clients last month All of them were things I worked on for our clients—let me explain them in order. First quote: we’re helping a client buy a business that’s a great strategic opportunity, but the seller’s financials are…let’s use the word “interesting?”. It’s a great opportunity, but we’re untangling a lot of spaghetti. Second quote: we’re in the final stretch of helping a client complete his succession plan to sell his life’s work to a group of key employees. The process with the bank has been *ahem* challenging, and not because of our client. It’s the bank. They’ve admitted some mistakes, and we’re closing this by month end. Finally. Third quote: one of our clients has been approached by a key strategic partner. They provide complimentary services that allow each other to generate more revenue. The other company wants a small bit of equity in our client to “maintain” the arrangement. Client is not thrilled about slicing off a part of his company to appease the other. During a meeting, we suggested a “supplier agreement” be executed between the two parties to create the “bond” that was desired, without taking on a partner. All in a week’s work folks. I love it. #yourbizyourinvestment #problems #solutions #businessowners #problemsolvers?

It was an honor to represent the National Bankers Association at the Financial Institutions & Small Business Policy Roundtable, hosted by Jeanette Quick, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy, earlier this week. The discussions centered on the current state of small businesses, the challenges they face in accessing capital, and potential solutions to address these barriers. Opportunities like these, to exchange ideas and collaborate with stakeholders from financial institutions, non-bank firms, fintech companies, and other trade associations, are essential. They provide a vital platform for fostering innovation and finding solutions that strengthen small businesses—ultimately driving growth and resilience in our communities.
