Exciting news from Chinese researchers! ???? They've developed a groundbreaking water-based battery with the potential to revolutionize energy storage, especially for electric cars. This innovative battery boasts nearly double the energy storage capacity of regular lithium batteries, offering a safer alternative for powering vehicles. One of the key advantages highlighted by the researchers is the safety factor. Compared to non-aqueous lithium batteries, which they describe as "highly flammable," water-based batteries pose a significantly lower risk. Traditionally, aqueous batteries have had lower energy densities, typically under 200Wh/L. However, the team's new electrolyte, based on bromine and iodine, aims to overcome this limitation, potentially opening doors for broader applications beyond stationary energy storage. ? This breakthrough not only enhances the safety of energy storage solutions but also brings us closer to a more sustainable future with electric vehicles powered by water-based batteries. #EnergyInnovation #WaterBattery #ElectricVehicles #SustainableFuture

?? Researchers at the University of Cambridge have developed low-cost #semiconductors made from copper oxides to convert water into clean hydrogen fuel using sunlight. ???? These semiconductors are cheap, abundant, and non-toxic, but their performance has been limited. By growing the copper oxide crystals so that electric charges move diagonally, the researchers achieved a 70% improvement in performance and stability over existing technologies. ?? This innovation is crucial for Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. ?By precisely controlling the growth and orientation of the crystals, Professor Sam Stranks and his team, ensured that electric charges move more efficiently, making this material a credible contender against established photovoltaic materials. The findings suggest that these improvements could lead to the development of vibrant, cost-effective, and sustainable energy solutions. The study demonstrates how fine-tuning low-cost materials can accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to clean, sustainable energy sources, paving the way for a greener future. ??
