I love it when our people get noted for their efforts. Thanks Samuel Evans, III - CAFM? for all you are doing. For those who do not know, Sam is working hard to find cost effective ways to electrify our campus vehicle fleet. Many times we are looking to see where smaller vehicles can take the place of larger ones. It is easy to just buy electric. It is much more difficult to do it in a responsible manner that is cost effective and sustainanble. Financial sustainability is one of the oft forgotten parts of sustainability. When we are able to find cost effective solutions, we don’t increase a cost that others have to pay. Sam is finding the balance for both. It makes his job harder, but the world better. Did you know.....that EVs are actually LESS likely to catch on fire compared to traditional (or ICE) vehicles? Despite the noise in the media, various surveys concluded that EVs represent FAR LESS of the overall vehicle fires reported. Per BILLION MILES driven, there were 55 ICE vehicle fires compared to just 5 EV fires. And EVs exhibited 61 TIMES FEWER fires per 100,000 sales than ICE vehicles. All of that is backed up but the City of Phoenix Assistant Fire Chief Tim Kreis. It was awesome to learn about how proactive and forward thinking Tim’s team and the City of Phoenix has been with these new trends. In fact, that hoverboard or scooter sitting in your garage is more likely to catch on fire than your neighbors EV ???? There is fear in the air for the market place, but do not let fear lead in your decision making. Slow down, take a breathe, and see the next step that you are taking. Do you need the money today? Does the company have solid foundations? What changed in the company or processes? Are the markets down because of external factors (the fear of war)? Remember do not panic or have fear, but act intelligently.
