Dual enrollment opportunities in Salisbury Township School District are helping some students earn college credits while still in high school, many of whom are students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Check out how the district has increased participation at the Great PA Schools website: https://lnkd.in/gg9EkHrp. #GreatPASchools #ExcellenceInPAPublicEd

Yesterday I listened to a phenomenal holistic college admissions webinar hosted by Jeff Selingo with the enrollment directors of Wake Forest University, Northeastern University, and Florida State University. I learned there are only 2 constants that will continue to exist in the college admissions landscape: 1) Change- the landscape changes constantly and policies of institutions are trying to keep up with... 2) Disruptions- test-optional admissions, legacy changes, affirmative action, financial stability, FAFSA changes, huge turnover in school counseling departments across the country, and hiring challenges in admissions offices are all examples of disruptions. So what does this mean for high school students? It means admissions is not fair and there are many factors out of students' control when applying to college. Keep Calm and High Five On! #collegeapplications #collegeadmissions #collegeprep #collegecounseling

College Beyond was founded in 2015 by Paris Woods and Sarah Payne, two college access educators from Walter L. Cohen College Prep High School. The organization began by serving 45 students in its first year and now proudly supports over 250 college students in the New Orleans area annually. Despite long-standing efforts to expand college access as part of educational equity, college attainment rates have remained low for decades, and income inequality continues to rise. New strategies and investments are needed to change the status quo for marginalized Americans. Each year without adequate student support results in another cohort struggling to achieve upward mobility. In New Orleans, the number of students applying to college is higher than ever, but maintaining this momentum requires ensuring that students receive optimal support to both enter and complete college. https://lnkd.in/ewFQ3bPa #abbysoulproductions #resources #collegebeyond #educationresources

According to the National Association for College Admission Counseling, when students meet one-on-one with a school counselor to discuss their future, they are 3.2 times more likely to attend college. As high schools across the country prepare for #WhyApply season, Yoruba L. Butler of Alabama Possible, working closely with Alabama State Department of Education, writes in a new blog post about the crucial role high school counselors and advisors play in supporting college application success. Learn more about the innovative and ambitious approaches to eliminating barriers to college access so that students can achieve postsecondary success. “Supporting these students requires collaboration, not isolation,” Butler writes. “The best resource to encourage this student population is exposure, including college campus visits, encouraging students to participate in dual-enrollment programs, and inviting guest speakers to share their personal experiences with students.” Read the blog post to learn more: https://lnkd.in/ew2kStf7 #StudentSuccess #College #HigherEducation #HigherEd

Spring is typically the time of year that colleges and universities focus on transfer recruitment and enrollment. Today's Eduventures Wake Up Call is all about transfers. Encoura will also have a webinar this week on transfer recruitment. Check out both of these resources as you focus on transfer recruitment over the next few months. We have to solve for fewer first gen transfers and lower socioeconomic transfers. How do we provide more access for these specific types of students?
63% of community college transfer students cited affordability as a core enrollment driver. Yet, as the cost and value of higher education remain under public scrutiny, our research indicates that the primarily cost-driven community college transfer student is not the only—or even most common—type of transfer student enrolling in four-year institutions today. My colleague Johanna Trovato shares the broader scope of community college transfer student types in today’s Eduventures Wake Up Call: https://lnkd.in/gcV-7m3A #highereducation #enrollmentmanagement

I couldn't agree more with this post! School Counselors are our best and biggest resource when it comes to helping students consider college in their post-secondary transition. The power of that relationship can not be overstated. We need to invest in supporting our counselors and helping them have time and resources to help students discover their post-secondary plan. Most solutions out there skip over the over burdened public school counselor or add a software that replaces the counselor, and this is a mistake. We need to empower counselors by removing non-counseling tasks, and giving them time to work with their students. If the mental health needs of the students are too much then we need to add more mental health support to our schools. For too long, school counselors have been the "jack of all trades" in our high schools with new tasks being added to their plates every year, and criticized when they end up being "master of none". Doubling down and investing in our high school counseling professionals will exponentially benefit students in every corner of this country. I can't help but guess that it will increase the college going rate too. #whyapply #applyks

Real estate investors might take note of this somewhat amazing trend. Employers go to locations where they can find an educated work force. Job and population growth are the two most critical factors in market selection.
A growing number of high-school seniors in the North are making an unexpected choice for college: They are heading to universities in the South.

Most people think of college admissions as being based on merit, but who applies to and who gets into colleges has more to do with schools’ priorities than students’ qualifications. A new book, edited by Stephen Burd, explores how an entire industry has shaped these priorities. The book, called Lifting the Veil on Enrollment Management, argues that the enrollment management sector has steered schools towards targeting revenue and rankings. What has that meant for applicants and families, according to the book? Universities inviting students to apply to schools even if it’s unlikely they’ll get in so they can boast of lower admissions rates; Applicants’ activities on college websites are tracked closely to see if they’re likely to enroll; And financial aid is often used as a tool to lure wealthy students instead of to help poorer ones.? ?? ?????????????????? ??????????????, ?????????????? ???????????? ??????????! ???? Here's a crucial heads-up for all of you with high schoolers eyeing college soon—especially if they're taking college classes on the side! Did you know that at the College of Charleston, a quirky rule in student housing policy could affect your child's eligibility for a dorm room? If your student has taken even a few college credits elsewhere (like at a technical school or community college), they may be classified as transfer students for housing purposes. This is true even if they have earned fewer than 12 credit hours! Why does this matter? Transfer students might not be eligible for on-campus housing due to limited bed availability. It's an unexpected twist that could impact your planning. For admissions, the threshold stands at 12 credit hours to bypass submitting high school transcripts. Still, for housing, any amount of transfer or college credits could put your child in a different category. ?? ?? ???????????? ??????: Dual credit courses typically don't fall into this category, so they should be safe. However, it's definitely worth a call or email to the housing office to confirm how any college coursework could affect other aspects of your child's college experience, particularly their living situation. Spread the word and double-check these details if your teen is accumulating credits early—it could save you a headache later on! #collegeofcharleston #collegeprep #studenthousing #southcarolina #charlestonsc #charlestonparents #parentingteens
