You may have heard of a Tampa, Florida man that secured his home in preparation for Hurricane Milton with long tie down straps. His idea while it may seem wild and crazy, was quite ingenious. It may be a viable option for homeowners in the hurricane states and tornado alley. We at TTech America are currently in the works to offer homeowners a similar service to secure their home for future storms. We are strategizing with industry partners in construction to ensure using tie-down straps are a legit securement option and not a gimmick. ??Update to my post below?? So after having discussions with a structural engineer, it looks like this tie down strap idea is a go... Our initial draft of the process will be the structural engineer provides an assessment of the said property to determine if the house is a good candidate. If yes, he will provide a report on how the straps need to be installed, how many straps are needed and sizing, where the anchors are to be placed and any other details. We will be looking to contract roofing professionals to install the straps and lastly a crew to take them down, when the weather is clear. We are also initiating conversations with insurance carriers to see if this risk reduction will provide discounts for homeowner to their policy. To make this service available to a variety of homeowners, we are in the process of establishing a financing option to those that can't afford cash payment. Pricing has not been determined as of yet. The biggest obstacle I see is there is a small window to do this business, as it is motivated by upcoming hurricanes. Since we'll be offering this as a pilot in Florida, it will be laborious to find enough contractors to do the work if the demand is strong.
