Advanced Technology + New Business Model Ariyan Kabir is the guy behind GrayMatter Robotics. We are friendly competitors with some fun shared history; see the video below. Ariyan is automating surface finishing using adaptive control, including vision and force feedback. We recently reconnected in the Gray Matter booth at FabTech in Florida. I can report that Ariyan and his team are doing great things. But what made Johnny Tyler and I shoot the video below is Ariyan's new business model. They supply robots on a subscription basis, eliminating risk and capital costs for the end users. I expect this model to become increasingly common in our industry. This may be the cure for a common problem in industry: Robot Phobia. GrayMatter and ARC Specialties compete on surface finishing projects, and we both use 3D vision and force feedback. Am I crazy to promote his company? Maybe, but I respect competitors who are good robot integrators. They are good for our industry. I fear the bad ones; they give robotics a lousy name. aira Challenge 2024 - A #3D case study. May we introduce - Andy, the little robot as the leitmotif of the aira Challenge. He was developed by our 3D experts and our #motion team. But what is the aira Challenge anyway? The aira Challenge is a robotics competition. In 2024, the skills of the self-built robots must be demonstrated. The requirement was as follows: a mobile robot with at least one robot arm that can be controlled remotely and performs tasks in a chemical plant or laboratory. The challenges of Advanced Industrial Robotic Applications (AIRA) were identified by a group of four companies (BASF, Bayer, Boehringer Ingelheim and Wacker) who, under the leadership of NAMUR Interessengemeinschaft Automatisierungstechnik der Prozessindustrie e.V., want to stimulate new solutions for the automation of routine tasks in chemical plants. The competition itself is organized by INVITE GmbH. Our team of experts have set fourth the goal of not only allowing our #robot Andy to drive in "circles" in the 3D model, but also to explore different routes under the control of the user. Andy can also use his robotic arm to move objects from A to B in the lab. In our latest video, we showcase the simulation of robotic smoothing of an element's surface in three distinct stages. This demonstration highlights the importance of optimizing tool paths and implementing obstacle avoidance for efficient and precise robotic operations. ?????????? 1: ?????????????? ???????? ???????? ??????????????????:? Initially, the robot follows the provided tool path. However, this often leads to issues such as unreachability and collisions. Without optimization, the robot's movements are restricted, and it struggles to navigate the complex surface. ?????????? 2: ???????? ???????? ????????????????????????:? Using an advanced algorithm, we optimized the tool path by leveraging the two degrees of redundancy—rotating the tool and the turntable (positioner). Now, the robot moves as expected but encounters another problem: it collides with the object being smoothed using different parts of the mill and robot arms. This occurs because the algorithm does not yet recognize the object's presence. ?????????? 3: ???????????????? ?????????????????? ????????????????????:? By activating obstacle avoidance, the element becomes visible to the robot. The robot then places the element in the best orientation and avoids collisions by rotating the tool around its axis. This comprehensive approach ensures smooth and efficient surface finishing without any unwanted collisions. Hello ?? ?? This afternoon, our team from Stogl Robotics had another appointment with a medium-sized company here near Karlsruhe. ?? The topic was the optimization of a robot cell or the process stabilization of a robot cell and our CEO, Dr. Denis Stogl, remembered a lot about the workshop with a customer from yesterday. There, several solutions were developed using the digital twin to improve the customer's cells in the long term. In the end, the team and the customer actually opted for the most complex and elaborate solution: both sides were simply convinced that this was the best solution and would ultimately be the most helpful for the customer. ??
