Given the latest stats from the HSE for fatal accidents was 51, almost 1 person a week, take out the festive shut down it’s 1 per working week. Which is far too many before anyone challenges me.
The suicide stats of 2 per day suggest that whilst H&S on site is still a high priority we need to shift our focus to highlight & tackle a much bigger problem.
Groups like The Lighthouse Charity #ANDYSMANCLUB and Ripple Suicide Prevention Charity are helping a lot.
My appeal is to all employers, main contractors, sub-contractors. When you’re expecting guys to travel up to 2 hours each way, then put in a shift for you, don’t get on their case for being a bit late to work. All of those kinds of pressures add to the stress particularly when the trades are largely self-employed & often don’t know from one week to the next where they are working. Be kind to the workforce it’s they that get the job done for you and they rarely get any of the praise for grafting in all conditions.
Everyone deserves to come home safe and not feel your pressure just because you didn’t allow enough time in your tender.
We don’t ever get to know the burden that some of these guys are carrying. We all moan about how much they earn, but don’t go any further than that. Think before you shout ??
Still too many bullies in site management teams (in my opinion), a red card is not something to be dished out just because you don’t like somebody. Get to know your workforce.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, and at Considerate Constructors, we are committed to changing the narrative around suicide by fostering meaningful conversations both on and off the building site.
In line with our mission to take deeper action in addressing the root causes of this crisis, we would like to share an important message from our Executive Chairman, Amit O.

2 个月In 2022 6,000 workers committed suicide and it's guesstimated that for every 1 suicide there have been up to 35 attempts. Going from military service to construction I see a lot similarities between them. Keep up the good work and remember to check on your buddy to your right and left.
