Why is Concrete the Most Common Construction Material? Concrete's versatility, durability, and strength have made it a cornerstone of countless projects across various industries. Concrete is more than just a building material – it’s a symbol of strength, resilience, and innovation. Whether it’s towering skyscrapers or cozy homes, concrete plays a vital role in shaping our world. Check out our recent blog post on the history of concrete: https://lnkd.in/ezUeAg-7 As Kansas City’s concrete professionals, we’re here for any project you may need. Desco recently completed a restoration project at multiple locations on West Edmonton Mall’s upper-level parkade.?The scope of work included temporarily removing and replacing the existing light standards so the existing deteriorated concrete bases could be removed and new concrete bases installed. This project involved careful planning and collaboration with the West Edmonton Mall Property Inc. (West Edmonton Mall and Fantasyland Hotel) construction team, RJC Engineers and Mammoet Cranes to ensure safe and efficient removal of the posts to minimize the disruption of the mall. After removing the light standards and existing concrete bases, our team installed new concrete bases, reinstalled, and secured each light post with precision and attention to detail. Why is Concrete Restoration Important in Parkades? Parkades are high-traffic areas exposed to constant stress from vehicles, weather, and daily operations. Over time, this wear can compromise not only the aesthetic appeal but the safety of critical structures such as light posts, staircases, support columns, and ramps. Regular maintenance and restoration of concrete surfaces are essential to: Enhance Structural Integrity: Reinforcing these high-traffic areas ensures the parkade remains stable and secure for all users. Prevent Hazardous Deterioration: Addressing cracks, erosion, and weakened foundations prevents potential hazards and the need for costly emergency repairs. Improve Safety and Appearance: A well-maintained parkade is more welcoming, clean, and safe for visitors and mall staff. This project is a testament to Desco’s commitment to providing comprehensive concrete restoration solutions that extend the lifespan and safety of vital structures. Thanks to our dedicated team and collaboration with the West Edmonton Mall Construction team and Mammoet Cranes, we’re proud to support West Edmonton Mall in maintaining a top-quality facility. #parkaderestoration #concretesolutions #projectsucess #yeg #architecture #construction #concrete #maintenance #healthandsafety #safety

Putting real concrete in a real building!
Sublime Cement? has officially appeared in its first commercial construction project, a prominent section of the interior entryway of One Boston Wharf. WS Development has developed this innovative and beautiful building as Boston’s largest carbon-clean office building, and we are grateful that they have embraced our material to showcase the possibilities in construction for the next-generation world. They have an inspiring mission to “create places people want to be” and this building exemplifies that, attracting great tenants (Amazon) while simultaneously advancing a world that is cleaner and more sustainable.? We are also excited to report that the concrete made with our next-generation Sublime Cement? was poured and finished like the standard material the finishing professionals were accustomed to, making for a regular day operationally but a thrilling one for our product progress. This milestone was made possible by the hard work of our entire team and our collaborators at BOSTON SAND & GRAVEL CO, who have worked closely with us to validate our material for high performance in the field. We are grateful for all the collaborators who helped bring this to life, WS Development, Yanni Tsipis, BOSTON SAND & GRAVEL CO, Jim Carreira, Turner Construction Company, Chris Gilmore, S&F Concrete Contractors, Corp , Gensler, McNamara ? Salvia, Structural Engineers. THANK YOU! When the building officially opens, you'll be able to see it for yourself. In the meantime, read more about it in this story by CleanTechnica: https://lnkd.in/eMP6QGwn #KeepBuilding #cleancement #statusquo #sustainablebuilding #industrialfuture

Progress report: Hillside Home, Buckinghamshire. We’re a third of the way through our 15-month programme for Mullery Architects The 6,500 sq ft pavilion-style home will nestle into the sloped site, and because of its partially subterranean design, there’s been weeks of site preparation and excavation. ? Demolition, clearance, waste management and repurposing ? Site set-up ? Groundworks, retaining walls and foundations for lower levels, including pool ? Basement section construction and waterproofing As you can see, the site is steep, so our programme focuses on the lower levels first to ensure each level is safe and accessible for plant, materials and equipment. #CivilEngineering #Demolition #Groundworks

Considering a concrete project? ?? Remember to aim for at least 6 cubic yards. One cubic yard covers about 75 sq. ft. at 4 inches thick, so smaller projects under 450 sq. ft. might have higher costs per foot. Why not take this opportunity to enhance your space with extra walkways or pads? Explore further or request a bid at www.cognizantbuilders.com. #ConcreteWisdom #BuildingBetter

Gabion Walls: Nature's Strength, Engineered to Last Gabion walls are retaining structures made from rectangular steel wire mesh cages filled with rocks, stones, or other sturdy materials. They are widely used in civil engineering, road building, and landscaping due to their durability, permeability, and flexibility. Gabion walls effectively control erosion, stabilize slopes, and support embankments. Their design allows for water drainage, reducing hydrostatic pressure behind the wall, making them suitable for flood-prone areas. Environmentally friendly, gabion walls often incorporate locally sourced materials and can blend into natural landscapes. Over time, vegetation can grow between the rocks, enhancing the wall's integration with its surroundings and increasing its stability. These walls are cost-effective and require minimal maintenance, making them a practical choice for many applications.
