Today Anders N?sman and Will Law presented the CTA Common Access Token (CAT) which is part of the upcoming Standard CTVA-5007 from the Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA). It allows to the OTT industry to have a common and consistent token format, supported by CDN providers, that can be used for multi-CDN deployments, especially with load-balancing/content steering support across a multi CDN deployment. It has some useful features like a common tokenization scheme and allows to enforce different claims, like a geo location or a certain IP address, directly on CDNs in a standardized way. Should be officially released in the next 2 month. Definitely a step forward for the industry and particularly welcome by OTT sports streamers. The upcoming dash.js player from the Dash Industry Forum in version 5.0 will already support it. Streaming Tech Sweden was a great conference and highly recommended. ???????? #STSWE24

Reflections on Progress I’ve realized that I may have over-focused on aligning the project toward image and video processing rather than streaming directly. It’s not entirely a bad thing, though. By leaning into modular design, we’ve accidentally created something that’s multi-use—a library capable of enhancing not just Twitch streams but also standalone video and image editing. That flexibility is going to be a big win in the long run. That said, streaming issues have popped up, and fixing them is my next priority. I want this tool to integrate seamlessly with OBS for Twitch streams, so getting it to handle live streams just as well as static media is critical.

Last night is why we need to get to a full ATSC 3.0 (NextGen) broadcast world. Broadcasters and streaming partners can then collaborate on events. Whether that be CDN offload over the air or just broadcast it with a paywall or streaming provider login it is the only real path forward for these large events. The CDNs just can’t handle these peak loads. Noone is even talking about 4k because of this…. I personally didn’t have any buffering issues last night but 45 minutes of latency isn’t great… especially for the sports betting industry. I knew who won the fight before it even started. We as an engineering community and media professionals should be solving these issues as it is in the best interest of the public and industry.
