?? How does it feel to be home? Safe, open, comfortable, authentic, supportive? After Tampa, Austin, San Diego, Dublin, Belfast and Anaheim in the last 5 weeks, I’m glad to be home. Some of the same attributes can be assigned to how people feel in your community. One of my first questions when diving in with a new client is, “What do you want your community to FEEL like?”. Yes, I know these are virtual communities but you still set the tone, the culture and rituals. These help shape how the community feels. Do the members feel welcome, supported, open to share or ask for help, comfortable and able to be authentic? Accomplishing this is part of the “sticky glue” that holds communities together. A week of shaping greater.?On Monday, we launched our new brand, RedeMont, embodying our pursuit of providing greater legal insight. So it was brilliant to hear from City of Gold Coast Cr Mark Hammel and Alisha Swain at today's City Shaping Industry Breakfast that it is real, informed insight which will shape the Gold Coast’s new planning scheme. Thanks Andrew Saad, Jennifer Michelmore and Catherine Rollo for sharing the growth modelling, community readiness and industry engagement programs that will underpin that insight. They are solid foundations for data-led decision making on what growth is necessary and where. In my view, if the growth target for each community or local area can be stated clearly (how many dwellings, how many jobs, etc.) then stakeholders can contribute more clearly towards how best to achieve that growth and create great communities.

YES! is starting with its first activity this week: Post a picture demonstrating how your work/studies have a positive impacton community. Feel free to explain it: what is your community that you serve/inhabit? What is the most rewarding thing about helping community? What is something that you think communities would benefit from your work, that is different or unconventional? For me personally, my local community is in Upstate New York, and as there are many people who have moved here to appreciate the natural beauty of the area, as well as locals who have lived here for generations, everyone has some story to tell from their perspective of the area’s natural history. One thing that is rewarding about serving it is seeing people and families come together and have fun in a local setting, and seeing that they can do fun and rewarding things for the environment right where they are. And, I truly believe that my community could really start to benefit from their creative projects being celebrated as a new way of collaborating in a local setting, to set an example for other communities. In order to create change, we need to embrace our unique skills and the qualities that make us outstanding. The environment is filled with communities, and we are one of them, contributing to it with our output.
