?? Thriving in the GSL system! ?? Reflecting on our journey since joining the GSL system in November, I couldn't be prouder of the progress my team has made in such a short time. From navigating new territories to achieving impressive results, we've truly come a long way. Securing the third position in our first intake ( Jan intake) was a testament to our dedication and hard work. But we're not stopping there. Our sights are set on clinching the coveted first position, and we're more determined than ever to make it happen. I often remind my team that in our environment, there's no work pressure, only unwavering commitment. It's this dedication that drives us forward, propelling us towards our goals with confidence and resilience. Join us on this exhilarating journey of growth and success. Together, let's continue to push boundaries, exceed expectations, and redefine what's possible in the GSL system. ???? #GSL #TeamSuccess #Commitment #AchievementUnlocked Rahul Das . #studyabroad Global Study Link

This is truly heartbreaking news, given that American democracy is in dire need of organizations like the Junior State of America (JSA). JSA not only gave me a transformative sense of purpose and community but also taught me about true statesmanship and the pillars of a healthy democracy— that is, civil and free discourse, civic engagement and representation that is inclusive of all swaths of society, and civic education for future generations of leaders, both in the US and abroad. From attending the 2012 Moctezuma Leadership Summit and the summer programs at Stanford (2011), Princeton (2012), Davis (2012), and Georgetown (2013) to serving as NorCal JSA's Expansion Director and Chapter President of American Indian Public High School's JSA chapter (among other roles), I was heavily involved in JSA. And, naturally, JSA had a significant impact on the trajectory of my own life. It was at a JSA year-round conference that I learned about the existence of my alma mater, Claremont McKenna College, and was encouraged to apply. It was through JSA that I developed my passion for public service and intercultural exchange, leading me to intern for Congresswoman Barbara Lee and become a Top 2 Finalist for Oakland's Public Ethics Commission last December. And, just as important, it was at these countless JSA programs and conferences that I gained cherished memories and forged invaluable friendships (some of whom I still stay in touch with today). It is my hope that the JSA Governors' efforts to reinvent the organization succeed. As the U.S.A. marches forward in the face of polarization, I pray that this vacuum in youth civic education is filled by the leadership and example of those of us who benefitted immensely from programs like JSA. #JSA #bethepeople #statesmenship #democracy #youth #civicengagement #juniorstateofamerica
It is with a heavy heart that the Board of Directors of the Junior State of America (JSA) is announcing the closure and dissolution of the organization effective August 31, 2024. After 90 years of inspiring student engagement in civics and activism, and after long business considerations, we have made this difficult decision to officially close the organization. While this chapter of JSA's history is coming to an end, the impact of our organization will continue to resonate through the hundreds of thousands of lives touched by our programs. Thank you for being a part of the JSA community and for your unwavering commitment to being the people who make a difference. Read the full announcement at https://bit.ly/4ciIIqc.

My phone blew up today with news of Junior State of America (JSA) winding down after 90 years. For a '90s high school student, JSA was formative (I was a Mayor, a Lt. Governor, and went to Georgetown & Montezuma). What made JSA special? 1?? ?? ?? Diversity of people & ideas. NJ high school was ... beige, racially and intellectually. At JSA, kids (and their parents) came from all over the place, with ideas which were all over the place. The most diverse environment I experienced until - a decade later - HBS. 2?? ?? Travel. ?? DC, ?? NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco. Without parents, and cell phones! Opened up new worlds for me. 3?? ?? Speaking and Conflict. Once upon a time I didn't like public speaking (I know, hard to believe). JSA's approach to debate taught not just public speaking & opposing ideas in public, but also building friendships & leaving public conflict behind when the debate was done. Unique in today's world. 4?? ?? Paperwork. Hear me out. JSA had a lot of paperwork -- Resolutions. Agendas. Membership rolls, all with minimal computers. Effectively navigating bureaucracy is perhaps the defining skill of adulting. Without even realizing it, I learned to do that in JSA. 5?? ?? Friends & ?? Leaders. JSA alums of that era became lawyers, business leaders, political leaders, social justice activists, and even rabbis. Several married each other. People like Israel "Izzy" Klein, Cindy Chen, Rachel Derkits-Gelman, and Abby Gordon still influence how I think about friendship, politics, and even parenting today. JSA's moment may have passed. No doubt other groups will fill these roles for the post-COVID high school generation. But it will be missed.

Personal Opinion - Honoring the Heart of CCSD: A Call for Change Without Losing Sight of Our Heroes Clark County School District (CCSD) is often in the spotlight for its leadership challenges and financial issues, but behind the scenes, there is a different story. It's a story of dedication, passion, and relentless commitment from our teachers, support staff, and school administrators. Every day, these unsung heroes pour their hearts into shaping the future of our students, whether it’s by staying late to help a struggling child, creating safe learning spaces, or going the extra mile to ensure every student feels seen and supported. Yes, CCSD needs new leadership. The system is crying out for transparency and accountability to address ongoing problems. But as we call for change, we must not forget the extraordinary work being done across our schools. Teachers are inspiring students, administrators are driving success, and support staff are the silent engines of every school’s progress. We must never let the call for leadership reform overshadow the accomplishments of those who truly make CCSD thrive. Let’s honor and uplift the people who are making a difference, while ensuring the district has the leadership it needs to let their brilliance shine.

We’ve all had teachers who saw potential in us. For Paul J. LeBlanc, former president of SNHU, three teachers changed his life. They lifted his sights and helped him dream bigger. Just like a teacher can change a life, so can an institution. SNHU’s “students first” approach is all about that. From flexible learning to breaking down barriers like transcript access, they’re putting students at the center. Learn how: https://lnkd.in/eVsjhs6m #studentsfirst #highereducationleadership

Some thoughts that I shared on stage at IPSS 2024 about equity success measurement. Again - a huge thanks to Resource Works Stewart Muir and Margareta Dovgal for hosting our panel on Partnership in Principle & in Practice: Measuring Progress. Check out the clip below!
I was so grateful to be able to assemble and moderate a panel of incredible speakers at IPSS 2024 in Vancouver on June 5, 2024. We discussed how leaders are encouraged to make the equity decision, how communities can drive benefits such as training, education, and development, and how can partnerships measure success. This is a small nugget of the rich information that was shared on stage that day. Thanks to all who attended!
