I was going to post an image of two salmon kissing; one wild, one farmed.? But instead I gravitated towards this image of farmed salmon breaking through the glass ceiling.? As I see it! In recognition of National Salmon Day, let’s honor responsibly farmed salmon as a powerful force, breaking through the glass ceiling of traditional food systems. Like a salmon shattering barriers that once held us back, sustainable aquaculture is forging a path toward a future where healthy, responsibly sourced food is accessible for all. As demand grows, responsibly farmed salmon rises to the occasion, breaking through limits and leading the way to feed a global population while protecting our ecosystems. This breakthrough represents a monumental shift in how we approach food security, paving the way for sustainable, innovative practices that will ensure the health and vitality of future generations. I look forward to the day I can post those two salmon shaking hands. Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Aquaculture Magazine #Responsibleseafood #Aquaculture #SustainableSeafood #FoodForThougth

Our Sustainable Seafood Week in Australia is coming to an end. This week, we saw some great posts from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), who are driving the strategy. Where our products come from and how they're made, grown, or fished matters. When we make a purchase, we're connecting to not just a location but also a promise, one of which is sustainability. Here's a shout-out to our clients who have invested in technology to ensure our seafood products are not only as described on pack, but also come from certified sustainable sources (e.g. MSC). During the next few weeks, the Source Certain team will be out and about obtaining these products from supply chains across Australia for provenance testing as part of our ongoing surveillance program. For seafood this Easter, you cannot go past Australian Wild Prawns and Farmed Australian Barramundi, whose provenance can be verified back to their respective fisheries or farms. #Sustainable #Seafood #ASC #MSC #Provenance #Supply #Chain

We've recently published our Seafood Forecast through the year 2050, a report that aims to untangle the complexities in seafood value chains and provide an objective view of developments to mid-century. This global forecast of the seafood industry covers both marine capture fisheries and marine aquaculture, including value chain components such as feed and global seafood trade. ? What will be the role of seafood in global food demand? ? How will marine aquaculture develop to meet seafood demand? ? What will drive change in seafood trade patterns to 2050? ? What will be the main sources of feed for marine aquaculture? If you're at #COP28 on 8 December, please join DNV's Bente Pretlove and Geir Fuglerud at tomorrow's launch event "Blue foods for sustainable food systems" in the Norway Pavilion at 09:00. We'll be exploring how to make blue foods available and accessible to low-income regions while encouraging more seafood consumption in high-income regions and ensuring traceability along the supply chain. ?????? New Campaign Urges Congress to Support Sustainable Seafood from U.S. Waters ???? The coalition Stronger America Through Seafood (SATS) has launched a campaign to raise awareness among Members of Congress about the urgent need for federal legislation to support open ocean aquaculture in the U.S. ?? Why it matters: Open ocean aquaculture is one of the most sustainable methods for producing protein, yet the U.S. is missing out on its economic and environmental benefits due to the absence of supportive federal policies. SATS highlights that without action, the country risks losing opportunities for job creation, economic growth, and a secure seafood supply chain. ?? Campaign Highlights: Educational materials for Congress. Targeted ads in key publications like Politico and Axios. A call for legislation to unlock the full potential of aquaculture in U.S. waters. Discover how this initiative aims to make American-grown seafood a cornerstone of sustainability and economic growth. ?? ?? Calling All Seafood Enthusiasts! ?? We invite you to read an important update from Stronger America Through Seafood (SATS) regarding the future of aquaculture in the United States. ?? Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/e-Vr9sQx ?? Key Highlights: ? SATS has sent a letter to the House Natural Resources Committee, signed by over 50 leaders from the seafood industry, environmental organizations, chefs, and academia. ? The letter advocates for expanding aquaculture in US federal waters to boost the production of sustainable, healthful, and affordable seafood. ? This initiative aims to enhance food security, support wild fisheries, and create quality jobs while maintaining environmental sustainability. ?? Why This Matters: With nearly 80% of seafood consumed in the US being imported, expanding domestic aquaculture is essential for securing our nation’s food supply and resilience. Offshore aquaculture holds the potential to improve food security, nutrition, coastal resilience, and job creation. ?? Legislation in Focus: The letter supports three key offshore aquaculture bills awaiting Committee action: ? HR 4013: The Advancing the Quality and Understanding of American Aquaculture (AQUAA) Act ? HR 5944: The Science-based Equitable Aquaculture Food (SEAfood) Act ? HR 1461: The Coastal Seaweed Farm Act #Aquaculture #SustainableSeafood #FoodSecurity #StrongerAmerica #EnvironmentalSustainability #SeafoodIndustry #USAquaculture #OffshoreFarming #Legislation #SupportAquaculture
