The Washington Post reports that last month, the task force established by President Biden to reunify children separated from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border published its most recent set of data on the reunification efforts. More than 3,200 children have been reunited with their families, about 800 of them thanks to the task force’s work. An additional 1,400, though, have not been—at least through the auspices of the task force. Of the 1,400, about 300 are either in the process of being reunified or have had their families contacted. Will higher walls, more guns and officers solve the border crisis? Our guest begs to differ. Erin advocates for more funds to be directed towards making the administrative and legal processes much faster. And I agree. I believe that getting more lawyers, judges, and immigration officials involved would make processing these asylum applications a lot quicker. This will reduce prolonged stays at the border and in turn lower health and security problems. Focusing on improving these processes could even help sift out those with ill intentions, which is really the concern of most Americans. What other policies do you think could help the situation at the border? #NGO #engineering #bordercrisis #engineeringforhumanity

Former president Donald Trump's mass deportation plan has been a pillar of his candidacy. Just last week during a rally in the city of Aurora, Colorado, he christened the operation as "Operation Aurora", a rehash of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, for which he plans to use "elite squads" from federal agencies like Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to actively pursue and remove such undocumented immigrants. But besides the constitutional and humanitarian implications of such a plan, little has been researched about the financial implications it would entail for the country. A new analysis by CBS News, however, digs deep into the numbers, estimating that deporting 11 million undocumented immigrants (based on the 2022 American Community Survey) would cost the U.S. between $160 billion and $216 billion over a four-year presidency. In fact, even if Congress were to approve such a number, deporting every undocumented immigrant living in the U.S. would take far longer than four years, the analysis finds.

Amid reasonable political debate about how to reform the U.S. immigration system, policymakers should be concerned about great replacement rhetoric inspiring individuals to commit violence. With such violent language becoming increasingly acceptable in public political discourse, potential REMVEs may feel emboldened to act. Check out our latest article? https://lnkd.in/eA7fXEMV

?? Trump Revives Aggressive Deportation Plans Ahead of Election ???? Former President Donald Trump is pushing forward with plans to deport an estimated 15–20 million undocumented immigrants if re-elected. His strategy includes: ?? Expanding the roles of ICE and CBP for mass deportations ?? Deploying military resources within U.S. borders for immigration enforcement ?? Reinstating and intensifying policies like "Remain in Mexico" and Title 42 ?? Collaborating with Republican-led states to bypass federal enforcement limits Industry Impact: Sectors like agriculture, construction, and hospitality could face significant labor shortages. Legal experts warn of constitutional challenges, while human rights groups highlight risks to families and civil liberties. The border is one of the top issues for voters this year. But we’re not having the conversation about a lingering crisis that began under Trump… a crisis that caused the Blue Wave of 2018. Trump’s Family Separation Policy. For those living near the border, they understand the complexities. The need to stop criminal behavior while still treating traumatized refugees with dignity. The need for more resources - like judges and border control officers. Trump never understood the issue. Nor did he ever bother to learn more about it. He thought he could build a wall and tell other people to handle the issue and then bingbangboom - done. 2018 voters proved how wrong he was. In 2024, he has the gall to run on “family values.” When HUNDREDS of kids may never see their families again. 5.5 yrs later, the damage will never be undone for these little ones. As voters, we can prevent this kind of careless, dangerous, narrow-sighted approach to policy from returning to power. Don’t let people forget.

Donald Trump's zero tolerance policy which separated families at the border was perhaps his most contentious in the immigration sphere. I wanted to see where things stand with those families and their concerns on the verge of the 2024 election. My latest:
Migrant families separated under Trump still feel the fallout and they fear his return to office

You might not realize it, but the Biden administration is on pace to match the Trump administration’s deportation numbers. The strategy has shifted, however. In a return to tactics used by earlier administrations, an overwhelming number of deportations under the Biden administration have come in the form of voluntary returns taking place at the border, rather than arrests and removals of unauthorized immigrants from the US interior. This comes as a time of record irregular arrivals at the US-Mexico border. Our experts Muzaffar Chishti and Kathleen Bush-Joseph dissect the trend in the latest US Policy Beat article from our Migration Information Source magazine. https://lnkd.in/evJrymy2 #ImmigrationPolicy #BorderSecurity #BidenAdministration #ImmigrationTrends #ImmigrationEnforcement #Deportation

Recent reports highlight the troubling reality for Mexican asylum seekers at the U.S. border, where Border Patrol agents are denying asylum and subjecting families to degrading, abusive treatment. Asylum seekers fleeing violence in Mexico are often turned away, their requests for protection ignored, and many are returned to the very dangers they fled. Current U.S. policies, such as the Interim Final Rule, severely limit access to asylum, leaving many without hope. In some cases, agents have told asylum seekers that "asylum no longer exists" and forced them to discard their belongings in cruel and dehumanizing ways. The Biden administration’s policies and the incoming Trump administration's plans to intensify such practices could worsen the already dire situation. It’s critical to ensure asylum seekers are treated with dignity and respect, in line with both U.S. and international law. If you or someone you know is facing asylum challenges or mistreatment, we’re here to help.
