AI – perhaps the buzz word (or acronym?) of 2024. It's rapidly infiltrating every meeting and conference agenda. It’s also transforming how we sell, especially in the manufacturing space. Here’s my 2 cents on how AI is already changing the game: 1. Predictive Analytics: Getting Ahead of the Market Imagine having a crystal ball for your sales pipeline. Yes please. Predictive analytics can analyze past data to forecast which prospects are most likely to close and WHEN. Can you hear your operations teammates cheering already?! It can flag potential churn before it happens and suggest upsell opportunities before your competition even has a chance. Now, instead of relying on gut instinct, your team can use data-driven insights to make smarter, faster decisions. 2. Personalization at Scale Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all sales pitches. AI-powered tools can sift through mountains of data and tell your team what specific products, services, or solutions to highlight based on each prospect’s needs. Personalized marketing and sales messages, tailored to the right decision-makers, are no longer a luxury – they’re a necessity. And AI makes it scalable. 3. Automation of Repetitive Tasks CRMs are a salespersons closest frenemy. We know we depend on the data but oooo does all that entry time sting. AI tools can handle repetitive administrative tasks, like data entry, lead scoring, and follow-up emails, giving your sales team hours back in their day. And what’s better than freeing up your best people to focus on high-impact activities? 4. Chatbots and AI-Driven Customer Service While personal relationships remain critical, early-stage interactions can now be handled by AI-powered chatbots, giving prospects the information they need, 24/7. This doesn’t just help customers – it frees up your team to work on more complex, high-value conversations. When done right, this kind of AI-driven customer service doesn’t feel robotic; it feels responsive and proactive. Here’s the most important thing (to me): AI isn’t about replacing human salespeople – it’s about enabling them to do their jobs better. To avoid solutions looking for a problem, let’s first understand the business needs. #Sales reps in a #B2B setting engage with each customer individually to convince him or her to purchase the company's products or services. #AI can help here in the following three areas. 1. Improve customer engagement with next best action One sales rep is usually responsible for hundreds of customers and needs to address them through appropriate channels with fitting content. The next best action AI system provides weekly or daily recommendations to each sales reps on which customers to contact that week or day, through which communication channels, and with which content. 2. Reduce travel time through route optimization Sales reps visit several customers per day and many more per week. A route optimization solution minimizes the overall travel time for the week. It also provides the most efficient travel sequence for the day reducing time spent on route and maximizing customer visits. 3. Avoid losing customers by leveraging churn analytics There are signs that a customer may switch to competitor’s products or services. Churn analytics predicts the probability of losing each customer. This AI also identifies triggers driving that potential churn and recommends preventative measures. In the next post in this series: What can AI do for Customer Service?
