We developed a platform that connects food donors with NGOs to reduce food waste and provide food to those in need. Our journey continues, and we're currently working on exciting new developments! ?? Ongoing Developments: Partner Program: We're building a feature where ordinary people can become partners and donate food to those in need. If someone raises their hand for help but lacks the resources to donate, partners can step in to contribute. Ever thought about how small tweaks can lead to big wins? Here's a prime example from one of our recent tests. In a recent experiment, we compared two versions of a donation form: ?????????????? ??: Featured a Google Pay button taking up the full width of the form. ?????????????? ??: Had the same Google Pay button, but it was smaller and less dominant. Everything else on the form remained identical. ?? The Question: Which version do you think led to more donations? ?? The Result: Version B, with the smaller button, resulted in a ????% ???????????????? in donations! ?? Why? It's not just about the size of the button. The key lies in user experience and expectations. In Version A, the large Google Pay button might distract or overwhelm users who are progressing smoothly through the form, especially if they aren't ready to use Google Pay. Version B offered Google Pay as an option without making it the focal point, maintaining the flow and momentum for users already filling out the form. ?????? ????????????????: Even the smallest test ideas can bring about major gains. From serving search results to serving the community... ?? A team-building exercise gone rogue? Nope...this is Team Retail does Google Serve, our annual volunteering initiative giving both time and ￡ to our local communities. (For every hour a Googler serves, we donate ￡15 to the charity.) ?? This year we partnered with the fabulous charity Hands on London who helped organise our volunteering day to tackle an area of Bishops Park that had become more 'wild west' than welcoming. ? With an array of tools ranging from safe (hand trowel) to scary (extendable secateurs) we tackled the weeds, brambles and over grown hedges - making one area of the park feel less like a scary movie set and more like a place you'd actually want to have a picnic. ?? We also gave a glow-up to a lovely rose garden Time together as a team is always time well spent, as well as digging out the weeds, it felt cathartic to get our hands dirty (well, actually we did wear gloves) and plant seeds of positivity. We laughed, we worked hard, and we even discovered some hidden talents (who knew Jacqui Owens was such a swashbuckler with the secateurs?). ?? As with all volunteering efforts, it wasn't just about making the park pretty (though it definitely is better now), it was about spreading kindness, one bramble at a time. Building Arctive Citizens has been exciting, but it hasn’t been easy. With the microgrant from UNOPS, we developed the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and secured some PR support for the initial design and launch period. Since then, we've been bootstrapping with the help of friends who have contributed their resources, skills, and even some financial donations to help us get off the ground. Now that we’ve launched, what’s next? We need to keep the momentum going. Our model, Participation as a Service (PAAS), depends on wide and active engagement—not just on our platform, but across our digital platforms like TikTok, Instagram, X, and Spotify. I also have a dedicated, talented team helping me run the initiative, and I want to ensure they’re compensated fairly for their hard work. Our current operating expenses cover subscriptions for all the digital tools we’re using and production costs for digital content. We’re raising pre-seed funding to support us in testing our MVP, gathering user feedback, and onboarding our first 1,000 citizens to the platform. Our MVP is already gaining traction, and our TikTok account is our star performer. However, we need to strengthen our presence on other platforms, especially X. As we continue to expand, we need support to sustain and improve our work.
