Making a Difference is about creating real, tangible value for society before seeking any rewards. In a world where many leaders have claimed value without truly contributing, it’s vital to remember that genuine leadership involves prioritizing the needs of others and the community first. Those who create value are celebrated and respected, while those who seek to claim value without contribution fall short of true leadership. Creating value isn't limited to a single role. Whether as an investor, general manager, entrepreneur, or active community member, the ability to positively impact society distinguishes exceptional leaders. It’s this principle that sets apart graduates of esteemed institutions, guiding them to provide leadership in all walks of life. Let’s all reflect on this. In our daily actions, professional endeavors, and community engagements, let’s strive to create value that uplifts and benefits those around us. For the longest time Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd has been spoken about with anger, frustration and sometimes utter disbelief by our fellow South Africans. As a country we felt hopeless and powerless to change this most significant pillar of our economy. Most people that I know put this in the bucket of 'South Africa's ultimate demise' and spoke about it as inevitable doom under the "I told you so" scenario. After meeting Mteto Nyati and spending time listening and understanding the work that he and his team are doing at Eskom; I am beyond inspired by his incredible leadership, humility and values. Mteto explained how he and his engaged board are approaching the turn around of Eskom, what surprised me is that he is using fundamental, sound business logic combined with a 'back to basics' strategy, that is as brilliant as it is simple. Changing the culture of the organisation from within and reminding those critical to the success of the operation about the values within the team, and what a winning culture feels like. South Africans are often quick to judge, and highlight the negatives of our leadership. Understandably so, as we have had a difficult past. My message that I wanted to convey in this post, is for all of us to unite behind Mteto Nyati and his team. They are doing their utmost to bring Eskom and our country out of darkness and into the light (so to speak); this is a hard and thankless task and arguably one of the most significant and influential roles in our country. Keeping the lights on is the single biggest factor that contributes to growing GDP. So lets get behind this man and show him our full support, because South Africa, we are #strongertogether
